I have noticed the teens and young adults talk too fast. And I end up asking them to repeat what they said. I don't think I'm thinking slower, they're just talking rapid fire.

IMHO that is because they are talking "at" you, and not "to" you. They are completely self consumed. "I'm talking, and I am the only one who matters. If you can't hear me that is your problem."

I don't think much of this generation, or the last one for that matter. I guess I am just a grumpy old geezer.

My 2015 F150 developed a vibration.
I was hoping it was a tire out of balance.
It wasn't.
I took it into Les Schwab tire center to get them to check it out and make sure it is safe to drive.
It isn't.
I have a strut that is blown out, the tire is cupped and wore through on the inside because of that.
When they had the wheels off they found the brakes on the passenger side are almost metal to metal.
I need new struts, shocks, tires, rotors, calipers, brake pads, and an alignment.
Going to cost me close to $5,000.
I was seriously thinking about selling it but I waited too long.
This is the first money I have spent on the truck since I bought it except for normal maintenance like oil changes so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
A good thing is I am in Oregon so I don't have to pay sales tax and that will save me around $450.

I was going to hit "I agree", and I do, with the first paragraph!!😉

My daughter would do that and I would tell her I can't hear that fast. It's absolutely true.

I think there is a cultural shift with less enunciation. Makes it harder to hear people. I think I've mentioned I dislike Rap "music" and I particularly dislike Mumble Rap. My friend's ex was obsessed with that garbage. She idolized a girl who was younger than her who as a teen was a hooker to get drugs & got famous from being on Dr. Phil or something. She did a song where I can't even post abridged versions of the lyrics but about the only word that was intelligible at all was a word for female dog.

I don't know why, but saying "No problem" is very common in my area and I don't know when it started. I know at the Mexican restaurant and other places if you say "Gracias" they will say "De nada". I don't think it is meant to be dismissive. I often say "No problem" to say that it was no trouble for me to do something and I don't mean it dismissively. I guess it's the connotations and interpretations as well. I do also say "You're welcome". I have noticed that fewer people seem to be saying "please" and "thank you" at times-- to the point where I've had service workers comment about how polite I am since I still say please and thank you.

Anyway, I was contacting HD this afternoon to ask if they had an update on the Fedex issue of them misdelivering my package. While I was waiting for a CS agent on the chat, Fedex called. I was basically blown off. I described my house and the location. Said it was absolutely NOT the trailer in the photo used as proof of delivery. He asked if I'd ever received it and I said "No, because it wasn't delivered to me, it was put at someone else's home". He said that that because they were unable to resolve the issue with their "investigation" and it had been going on since last week they had no choice but to close it. Didn't say whether the driver or a driver had gone to the houses I'd suggested they could look to see if the packages were still there and that if they weren't then the people living there decided to keep my stuff. I doubt they made any effort to look. So, he said that the only option now was to have the sender file a lost package claim. So, I passed this info on to the HD CS agent who told me that because the package was delivered to the correct address (which I insisted it was not) that they could not/would not file a complaint and that I would have to dispute the charge with my credit card. I argued that I could send them a photo of my house and porch so they could compare it to the one Fedex posted as proof, but they said that was all they could do and they would give me a $3 discount on the re-order for the items. I'm more than a little miffed. If HD won't accept that that it was misdelivered and Fedex won't admit it, how am I going to get the CC company to do a chargeback? I wonder if they have an e-mail so I can send them the pictures. I'm very close to actually driving over to the neighbor's place to see if its the porch from the picture and asking them where the hell my package is. If they didn't just miss it and leave it out there, then they stole it and know its not for them. The last time one of their packages was sent to my house by mistake, I took it over to them, but apparently they won't extend the same courtesy. I don't even feel comfortable taking stuff to them much less going over to look for something.

They didn't have grammar beaten into them by Nuns, the way we did. :waiting:

Haha, Morgan101, Sister Winnifred would rap our knuckles with a ruler... for a nun, she was pretty mean, lol. She probably could've beaten up thugs in Compton, North Philly and the Lower Bronx!

I have seen vehicles on Craigslist as a "mechanics special". Disclose what it needs. Someone with the time and abilities may think it's worthwhile.
I have the time and I have the ability I just don't have the desire.
I got all the work done today and the truck drives like brand new.
The truck is worth a lot of money in todays used car market so I'll keep it now and probably drive it the rest of my life.
The final bill was $4760. A lot of that was tires and parts.

I hear people say "no problem".
That is common everywhere today.
Blame the Jamaicans, they started it.
They repeat: 'no problem, mon' continuously down there .

@Wingnut @Morgan101 my husband said the nun who used to smack his knuckles with the wooden ruler didn’t do it anymore after he jumped up, yanked it out of her hands and broke it in two. He went to public school the following year.
“No problem,” it is rude. I used to get “NP” texted to me by young co workers. Thankfully they’re gone and the new ones musta had proper upfetchin’ because they are polite.

My Mom went to Catholic school and had one really mean nun as a teacher. She would break several rulers a week on students. She once backhanded my mother and 4 other students in their faces for not having their homework on her desk before the bell rang-- she opened the door late and they were all at her desk setting the papers down when the bell rang so she just swung her fist and hit all of them. She was later sent to a mental institution, IIRC.

Thankfully my parents didn't subject me to any of that. I mostly went to public school. I would have gotten in a LOT of trouble if a teacher had ever hit me or tried to hit me- nun or not. I was an angry child. LOL.

backlash, I hope the truck lasts a very long time.

My gripe is still minor in comparison to some but aggravating. I went to get my mail and my box was locked from the other side AGAIN. So, I told the clerk my key wasn't working and that I'd just renewed my box in December or January. She went and got my mail and packages and said it was a mistake. They had lost my paperwork for the third time. I even mentioned that I had to pay to get it unlocked last time because they had not given me the paperwork and then I filled it out. She wanted a recent utility bill and I said I was not about to drive back home & play Jenga with Mom's desk to find the bill but that the form stated I could use my voter registration card as proof of residence. She looked at the form and said that was correct. I just got my card in the mail not too long ago so I handed it to her and she made a copy. I hope I don't have to go back and fill out the paperwork again. She said that the last paperwork they had was form 2021. So the forms from 2022 and 2023 were lost. I mentioned this wasn't the first time my paperwork was lost and they locked my box. She apologized & said it was because they keep changing people & not everyone is as organized. But, she didn't make me fill out forms and pay to unlock the box and she handed me my mail. The other lady-- the one who took the paperwork when I filled it out last time-- wouldn't hand me stuff over the counter until the box was unlocked. It's asinine because its not like I'm late for payments as I get a free box since they won't deliver to my house.

She didn't have me fill out another form so I wonder if they will still keep my box locked. A previous time they had even changed the locks completely and I had to pay an unlock fee AND buy new keys-- and that was from them losing my paperwork and not from me forgetting or neglecting to fill out the forms & submit them. I don't know if someone there is doing this on purpose or what.

UPS "attempting" to deliver a package 2 different days but couldn't because "no one was home to receive it" they're just supposed to leave it in the box by the gate at the front of the property like all the other hundred packages before this one!

ABR, from my experience that means the driver was too lazy to deliver. I just found out that the UPS driver for my area actually asked my neighbor to deliver a package to me-- the one that was left on the back of my truck. Can't be mad at the neighbor for setting it on the truck as it wasn't her job to deliver. We talked for a bit today and I confirmed the dogs that come in my yard are from over there. Pit bull is named Mac. I forget the name of the reddish brown dog but he's actually a puppy and only 8 months old. He's going to be huge. He already shakes hands though and is so sweet. Sometimes if you call the seller and have them light a fire under UPS' behinds they will deliver. That's what I had to do several times to get my stuff.

My friend told me the two remaining kittens from the first 3 he rescued were dead when he got home from work. No idea why. The poor little black kitten is all alone now. I hope it pulls through.

I had a very frustrating conversation with Fedex CS. It turns out that even though my packages (apparently there were supposed to be 2) were delivered to the wrong home and I sent them pictures of my home, a map of the area, etc they refused to acknowledge that the package was misdelivered. Said that according to them, it was "close enough" to my house to count. I finally got agitated enough to go over to the neighbor's and sure enough, it was the same porch sans package (note, the photo only showed 1 package, not 2). I asked the neighbor and she invited me in and was friendly. She said she had no idea about a package. I showed her a photo and she said "That's my porch!" and we looked around for the package. She then called her daughter-in-law to ask if she'd seen the package. Fedex and UPS will NOT go over to that house bc the dogs there bite people. She then called her son who usually picks up stuff for her and he said he hadn't seen it either. So, she claims she has no idea what happened. She said maybe the driver set it down, took the picture, and then picked it back up. It's hard to tell these days. The neighbor has no use for the stuff I bought.

I decided not to let the thing with Fedex slide so I got on the live chat with HD cs and explained the situation-- how they told me I needed a waiver from HD to file a claim or get HD to file a claim. Sent them the same pics I showed to Fedex. CS person was great and refunded the $ and I stayed on the chat in case they needed any info for the claim. They filed a claim and then checked into the UPS thing and confirmed UPS most likely lost the package.

I feel much better getting the discount at least.

Now I need to remember to not eat after midnight since I'm getting bloodwork tomorrow morning.

3rd day in a row that the daggedblammed package "couldn't be delivered" 😠 the guy from the call center yesterday said they'd reach out to the distribution center and tell them to just leave the dang thing at the gate! I guess I'll be driving into the big town tomorrow to the center to talk to somebody who is actually in this country!!!

Called UPS again and they had the audacity to offer to send it to a facility for me to pick up, for an extra fee of course 😠 tell them stuff it and I'll take care of it myself because I've been to my local center before. Get to the center and of course they're closed from 1-3pm. Sitting in the truck waiting because it's on the far side of town from anything and I'm not wasting any more fuel. All this trouble because some lazy driver doesn't feel like driving down a gravel road at the end of their shift.

Having a stay at home wife is great with many wonderful benefits for both of us. However it has not been great for her people skills. Being in the country she is only as exposed to the outside world as much as she wants to be. I would buy her a book on tape about improving listening skills, but I am afraid she would only half pay attention until she could interject her point of view and then ask questions that were answered moments before. I am kinda out of patience today. 🙄

ABR, I've had the issue of them not delivering for over a week (one time it was over 3 weeks) and it drove me absolutely insane. Especially since the 3 week one was something I desperately needed ASAP. I finally had to go meet the driver at a Pizza Hut to get my package. I complained to Fedex about them putting my package on the truck and saying it was out for delivery yesterday and then after I waited all day they said it would be the next day. "Operational delay". When I contacted them I was told I could pick it up at a distribution center. I explained the nearest one is an hour away and I should not have to drive that far to do their jobs for them. I said I was tired of them saying it was being delivered that day and then changing it and then they would say next day and next day and sometimes it would be over a week and the only way I got it delivered was by calling the sender to light a fire under their behinds. So, yesterday after a long talk with Fedex CS I explained it was not acceptable for them to keep delaying while I was waiting at home for the packages & I was fed up with them not even admitting they misdelivered my package to the neighbors. They claimed the package wasn't there when they went to get it but they never even admitted it was misdelivered so there was no record of anyone going to look so they were full of crap. Anyway, I got it so they were told to only leave my packages on the porch next to the door.

This afternoon I looked out the window and saw my neighbor closing her trunk & jumping in to her minivan with something in her hand. My first thought was fedex delivered her stuff to my house by mistake. I went out and only saw 2 of my packages. I thought maybe she'd stolen one, but she had no need for what was inside. I also thought that maybe she brought my packages over bc they'd been delivered to her place or something. I checked the photo from Fedex as proof and it showed the back of my truck. I went out searching and found the 3rd package on my lawn between my truck and my brother's truck. I don't think the neighbor moved it. So, I took pictures of where I found them, retrieved them, got overheated bc it's over 90° and I'm overly sensitive to heat, and went back inside to contact Fedex again. I sent them the pictures and said none of them had been on my porch and the 3rd one I had to go search for & that it was aggravating me that they can't follow a simple instruction. Even if they had all been on the sidewalk it would not have been as bad as just dumping one on the lawn.

Cascadian, your wife sounds a LOT like my mother. It's a good thing she wasn't a communications major. Although, my brother and I joke that it would be funny if she was. She'll say she wants something to eat and when I ask her what she wants to eat I get silence and she stares at her computer instead. I have to ask her 3 to 10 times to get a response.

UPS and 😠 because some lazy driver doesn't feel like driving down a gravel road at the end of their shift.

I live in a very rural area and know what you mean. I've had a few bad drivers over the years, caused all sorts of aggravation. I get a lot of shipments, one crappy driver can make a mess.

Thankfully they usually don't last long, at least for me. Had a several good ones too. Folks I knew for many years, by name.

I've noticed a big turn over since covid started. Had a new young lady stop last monday, ups. She was bright, cheerful and eager. She seemed poorly trained but that wasn't her fault. She was trying, i think she'll be a good one.

The only day of the week my friend was available to help me with the bathroom & his daughter needs appendectomy. They said she needed an emergency surgery this morning and are waiting to do it tomorrow. When I needed mine taken out, they took it the same day I was diagnosed. Kid is pretty scared and I don't have much trust in the doctors in this area-- although, she was sent to a different hospital that has better staff. I still worry about the kid.

Good thing I am not Catholic, I would punch a Nun who backhanded my child over a silly thing like that.
I believe GOD want strong men to protect children & puppies
A nun is a grown up & should behave like an adult.
