Is anyone else finding it a little more difficult to not be a jerk lately? I am not having any financial worries or job concerns either. The average Joe is probably really on edge.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much about the $2000 or so it will cost to replace the brake lines on our truck
Why are vehicle parts and repairs SO crazy expensive now???? Everything seems to cost at least 5 times what it cost BC ( before covid)

Buffalo, the guy who did the Zoom meeting, has an auto body shop in Nebraska. He said they are having a hard time getting parts. One of the problems is that the parts sit in warehouses because there is not enough help to get them distributed.
With the price of new cars and truck people are keeping their old vehicles longer. Those older cars and trucks generally require more maintenance and therefore more parts.
I could sell my truck for about 75% of what I paid for it but then I would have to spend around $80,000 to buy a new one.
I could do a lot of repairs on my 2015 F150 for $80,000.
I've got a 2008 Tundra. Just trying to do maintainance along the way ahead of schedule or at least as needed. Got a 2005 camry I use as a DD to keep miles down on the truck. But I plan to keep it for many years to go.
Try changing carry positions, my GI 45 is barely noticeable in a cross draw. BUT I notice it has to be opposite of my other gear or I get a hip ache.
Whatever happened to junkyards (salvage-yards)?
When I was younger, we never bought a new part if we could find one in a junkyard instead.

A LOT of junk yards in north central Texas! Last summer Hubby replaced my car tranny and his truck tranny from a junk yard! The differential in his truck had a chipped gear, so he got one from the junk yard and rebuilt it recently. Luckily he has a parts truck here too! Body parts, metal brake lines, junk yards are the way to go.
ALL our junk goes to China to make their steel. I hate to admit it, but with all that extra carbon, it makes decent axes and bush knives. BUT it can be a bit of a pain to temper. no two pieces are the same.Whatever happened to junkyards (salvage-yards)?

Yeah, the humidity is a killer here.
We have a salvage yard about an hour away but they never hare parts for my truck because someone who works there has the same truck and he gets first dibs on parts. Plus they never seem to get Ridgelines in there.
I was going to say something and totally forgot what. My memory still sucks. The heat makes me irritable and makes it hard to concentrate.
I went to find the caulk I bought that I could have sworn was in my bathroom but couldn't find it anywhere. Looked all over and under stuff. Looked in the storage bins and on shelves in the kitchen. Looked all over the front room. I know I didn't take it into the living room. Ugh. Had to go to the store to buy more.
Anyone else notice this site was down for a little while? Right when I was going to post. LOL.

I did the exact same thing last week, guess what I found in the trunk after I bought more?
We have several junkyards with in a 2 hour radius. Find most anything you need iff u look hard enough

That is assuming you have the tools and know how to use the parts and it's not something you don't want used. I sure wouldn't want a used brake line from an old truck, and no repair shop would put it in your car either.
Some have already been disassembled and sitting on the shelf. But I don't mind hauling a tool box around either

Covid stopped new cars being made and shipped, that caused people to keep their old cars, which then they needed more parts to repair them, and more mechanics to do the work. Plus people had extra money from not going on trips and spending it on entertainment and now they all want to buy cars

I have worked on vehicles when I was young, like 30 years ago or more, but I am not going to even try that now. Husband has no clue, has never worked on cars. Last thing I fixed was the old golf cart we have. It needed a new fuel pump and I installed it. It did finally break again after a while, and I just didn't want to mess with it anymore, plus covid stopped those parts being available also, so we bought a Ranger. We bought it in 2020 and very good move. Now they cost $4000 more for the same thing, no used ones available either.
I grew up farming. We worked on whatever broke. Then I took auto shop in HS and work at car dealerships and garages after that for a while. Dont do as much now days but still can and do somethings

My brother can fix almost anything including cars. Problem is he lives in France....a long way from our farm. He has given me tips on how to fix things over the phone but he also has problems now getting parts for their vehicles
Parts is an issue with lots of stuff now days. Some stuff I use at work in my group is hard to get. Or near impossible
You realize that as soon as that new car is driven it is running on used parts?

A lot of the parts are made in China and a HUGE part of China's workforce died from Covid. They lost waaaay more than they ever admitted. Factories were shut down so production halted. So we get to supply & demand: Higher demand with lower supply = higher prices. Although corporations will artificially inflate that. Diamonds are not rare at all. They are very prolific but because the companies that control the diamond mines limit the flow, they use it as an excuse to charge higher prices. I won't even get in to the whole abuse of local people in the mining areas.
We also had huge shipping delays, the cost of materials to ship things went up, and the price of shipping increased so that adds to the price hikes on car parts. Then we have just plain corporate greed where they know they can use any excuse they can find to jack up prices & claim it is necessary bc they are allegedly losing money but they are actually making windfall profits.
I'm worried about my younger cow, Alleria. When I put out feed she limped over very slowly. Her right rear hip looks displaced. It looked like her front legs may have been hurting too. I don't know if there's anything that can be done to treat her and she may need to be euthanized to put her out of her misery if she's in a lot of pain. I know my other cow would be devastated and she's still young. Neither one of them would understand the reasoning for it if she were put down, I don't even know how we would dispose of her body, and I don't want to lose her. But I also don't want her to suffer. But, we have really crappy vets in the area. I tried to get the vet out before when she first messed up her hip but he wouldn't come out and I don't have a trailer to bring her in. The part of the barn where we used to be able to trap animals for treatment is all falling apart. So even if the vet came out, I don't know how we would restrain her-- not that she can move fast enough to run away or anything...

Hope you can figure something out for your cow!! In my area you can rent "OK Corral" chutes. It's a portable pen and chute system. Don't know if that is an option by you?
Tuesday early and I mean early, wife is taking me to the airport. I'm flying out of state to help an offspring move. Moving evolves me driving a U-Haul truck 1,100 miles. This has been planned for two months.
Saturday wife asked me if I could help her watch her mother on Memorial Day (Monday). Most days MIL is too weak to stand and or assist in getting into her wheelchair, bathroom or bed. That's where I come in, I'm the muscle. SIL and BIL are the primary caregivers and want to take some time off for themselves. Wife says it will be 10 AM to ????? will I help? I don't know, I need to get to bed early for my flight the next morning. Wife wants to know when will I know? When I know how late I'll be helping.
Sunday. I'm told 10 AM to 10 PM to watch the MIL. I know the history of the in-laws. No comprehension (or caring) of time. I'd bet the 10 PM will be closer to 11 PM. MIL is the sweetest MIL a fellow could have, for her I say yes.
Sunday afternoon I have my backpack packed for Tuesday's flight and the following 1,100 road trip.
Memorial Day morning. I double check my backpack, I'm good for Tuesday. It's about time to leave for MIL's and the wife isn't getting ready. Why? I'm told SIL texted and changed the 10 AM to 11 AM. OK, there's an hour of my life lost. Is there a small house project that I can complete in that hour....? Another text from the SIL the 11 AM is now noon, SIL and BIL have decided to sleep in...any bets on how the 10 PM will morph into after midnight?
This isn't an exception but standard operations for the in-laws.
