We got over 2.5" rain overnight. East of us a couple towns built near rivers are seeing some flooding between the rains and the dam releases over in north Carolina where they have had even more rain. Plus our temps are in the 50-60's so all the snowfall up in the mountians is melting and running off. Next few days should be interesting in some spots.
We havn't done much of anything today, probably won't either. Currently watching Motocross on the tube. Makes me think about my younger years. Dirt bikes were a whole lot of fun.

Ran errands this morning made the loop.
First up was Wal-Mart for Rent money order
Second was Library to take books back, went over to large print section randomly pulled off books.
Receive better selection of books and authors this way.
Third, went and visited a friend who has been under the weather.
Fourth went to visit parents, shared a few library books with them, picked up newspapers, syrup.
Fifth back home watching Strawberry try to bury bone in wing back chair.
Thinking of nap, read a new book for awhile.
Crocheting on my afghan.
Supper will be Goulash.
Then dishes
Hope to be in bed by 9 pm tonight with book from library.
Course Strawberry will have to go in and out about a dozen times.

Yesterday we spent around 3 hours loading branches, the last of the bogainvillea (yay) and the jasmine cuttings into three loads in the trailers to go to the tip. On the way there we picked up our mail and our 100lt towable sprayer turned up and DH put it together and put on a load of washing and hung it out. I reused the grey water from the washing machine to water part of the house paddock lawns and the rest to water canna and calla lilies around the home and flush the toilet with rather than using town water.

In the afternoon we started filling in holes in the shed that the previous tenants dogs had dug with dirt given to us by the neighbour, washed the dishes, kitchen benches and I dried them and put them away. DH took in the washing and we filled up our 25lt drinking water container so we can fill our drink bottles, use some for handwashing water in a bucket and water herbs and fruit trees with.

So far round 1 of today is DH has gone through his clothing in vacuum bags and found more clothing in smaller sizes he kept from previously and put them in his tallboy to wear. The other larger clothing has been packed away in case he puts on weight again. He has lost 35 kg since we got married mostly because of all the gardening work and walking we do. I stain removed some clothing, put a load of washing on and hung it on the clothes line to dry.

This afternoon I have sorted out 3/4's of my sewing fabric packed in bags into the sewing room built in cupboards and DH put his spare clothing in vacuum bags in the top shelf of the built in cupboards in there in resealed vacuum bags.

just got home from work. A good dusting of snow on the road made the usual 45 min trip over a hour.
I should go to bed as its almost sunrise. I am tired physically and emotionally and looking forward so much to this weekends serenity on the homestead that sleeping sounds like a waste of time at the moment.
I had to put my old cat Crazy down before work yesterday..
His health has been failing him and as hard as a decision it always is..I had to make a call on it.
In the past, I have held on too long to pets because I have a hard time letting go and my heart yearns to avoid the sorrow that follows..
I have often hoped I just arrive home and find the ailing one snuggled up in their bed cozy in a position of repose and they.."just fell into eternal sleep" lol..this had never happened for me yet..
It would be so much eaiser to accept and deal with if I don't have to be involved in D day, but with all the pets I have had..I have found myself in the position to assist them to becoming one with the fold of the Universe again.
It is never a easy decision, but in my heart it has always been the right one for them...
I didn't choose Crazy and he didn't choose me initially. .
I inherited him from my mom, whom my mom had choose to adopt as a ferel AF kitty
I was the "bad girl" who had to catch him and doctor him or take him to the vet when needed in his younger years because my mom physically couldn't handle his wild ways..
As long as she didn't try to chop his balls off ( I took him in for that) , give him shots or whatnot..he was ok with her..
when I tried to be cool with him..I usually ended up leaking as maulings would happen..
But over time, with copious amounts of patience and trust on both our wills..respect for non -mauling interactions happened..
And Im not even a cat person..I like dogs. Ive had cats of my own but Im a dog gal..Crazy just had to happen I guess..
The Universe works like that sometimes...
Over time and once my mom couldn't take care of him anymore, Crazy accepted I was his human for better or worse.
I was committed to his well being out of respect to my mom who never gets attached to critters but something in her found compassion for this wild cat and couldn't let it be..
I figured I owed her one for dumping my childhood cat on her as I flew the nest years ago and although I left her a nice tame kitty on a non loving animal lover..She left me a wild crazy mini lion as payback..
seems fair I guess..lol..
I know he was just a cat ...but he became my cat for well over a decade. We had to find a common ground using a language older than words to achieve this mutual respect and it at times was a comical journey.
Im grateful for the opportunity to learn what I did from this wild mini beast and perhaps that is the gift I can take from this experience..
Im not writing this spawn condolences..I guess I just needed to purge some reflection and ...your it..

As far a work goes..I wrote my machine up today on lots of issues. As I turned it into the lead guy as I left this am, I explained it all and stated If im am going to put in all this forced ot..I want my machine to work right. The issues I wrote up have been ignored too long and my knees and sanity are suffering for it..
I have better wear to suffer onto my body mainly in the form of running my miles about this beautiful area with my dog pal than to wear out my body on a ill kept machine …
cheers everyone :)

It's always hard to know exactly what to do when your pet's health goes downhill. You feel like you either held on too long, or you could have let him have just one more day. I went through it with my old Dobie "Chance" earlier this year, and looking back I should have taken him in sooner. But he was up on his feet until his last night and only when he went down did I know how bad it was. Rest easy knowing you did the best you knew how to do for him. I'm sorry for your loss.

Have had some unexpected expenses this month.
But they have all been paid.
Regular bills have been paid also.
Strawberry's needs taken care of, ie... dog food bought, nails clipped(vet. bill ), her good girl treats made and bought.
This month will be slightly tighter than several months past.
Rent went up from $57 to $238 ouch, car insurance went up a few dollars too.
But the rent is what is crunching my budget this month.
But by the same token my apartment complex has been sold this is new owners rent amount.
But good news is I can eat quite well as pantry, cupboards, freezer are quite full.
Won't have to buy much there.Fresh fruit and produce for $20 every two weeks.
Have some money in checking, savings, and little bit of cash in my purse.
So all is good with the world.
Will have to wait till next month to make extra car payment trying to get my new to me Fiat paid off sooner than later.
Make regular car payment, then middle of month make same amount principle payment.
Next month will have to buy more coffee.

Ouch @MoBookworm1957 is that rent increase per week or month there ?. The rental prices are getting high everywhere at the moment :( . The little cottage we just left that we were paying $230 per week on they now have advertised for $250 per week so I noticed and the cottage is only equivalent to a small apartment.

Survived shopping with mom at Walmart and Aldis. I did find a few bargains myself. Organic canned pumpkin at Aldis was 79 cents a can with a 2020 exp date. Other canned goods there are always a good price. I picked up lots for the farm stockpile. Mom stocked up pretty well her kitchen, too. It's hard to steer her away from just buying sweets and junk food. She did end up with some bagged salad, tomatoes, a few cans of soup, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese and bananas. But she bought a lot of cake, pie, and honey buns. We took her out to lunch after all the shopping, and we helped her put away her groceries and brought her back to our place. I made some potato, navy bean, and ham soup for dinner, which she liked. Brought her back home, and here we are.

I slept till 3!! oh my !!
I guess I needed it but I got nothing done today except food and water to the critters..But I did go visit my elderly neighbors. They are really nice folks, both retired and we planned on catching up today. So we sat around their cabin and caught up on the happenings.
Then I went to my buddies b day dinner down the road. I really was ready to just go home and get the fire going but I had already said Id show up..im glad I did..it was a nice party with just neighbors and good food.
Im home now with the fire going and ready to catch up on news and relax to a nice snowy evening on the homestead..
thanks to you all for letting me unload earlier.. :)

ALDI is good stuff. I have to go almost 30 miles to the closest one so I don't go much but when I do go I try and stock up...I do wish they had jumbo eggs instead of those little teeny ones that they try to pass off as "large" size...

I'm waking up to Folgers, too, JimLE.
Plan to do stuff around the farm today and then pick up mom this afternoon. My cousin is having everyone over for dinner and one of her sons has a birthday to celebrate, too. I'm on early tomorrow morning to have everyone over for breakfast. So I though today I would get the place cleaned up, folding tables out and set up, and a little of the cooking done. I can get a few cakes made ahead of time, and then will just have the breakfast foods to make. Should be around 25 people. So tomorrow I better wake up earlier with Folgers.

Drinking coffee, watching Strawberry try to get comfortable in wing back chair with 4 bones tucked around the cushion.
Had Estelle this morning, happy that her head cold is breaking up,but her little nose is red, runny.
Know it has to be sore just looking at it.
We watched Cocoamelon on Youtube for about an hour till she fell asleep for good hard nap,(45 min. nap rare).
She slept in Granny's arms. when she woke up in much better humour.
She ate some Goulash, animal crackers, pear, green beans. That's alot for her.
Reading the forums, washing dishes, got to cook something.
Might try Taco soup again Laid out hamburger early this morning so will do something with that.
Might read on a new book from library, finished one last night.
Crocheting, dishes, going to be uploading pictures from phone to laptop so I can show some of the stuff made for Christmas.
Probably not today but maybe.
Started sketching out new quilt don't know if I care for the colors or pattern yet.
Haven't decided for sure if going to enter competition yet.
Thankfully the judging is still 2 years away.
Another one of the cousins entered my name, when her sister law loved the quilt I had done for her several years ago.
This competition is invite only, am told it's a great honor to be invited to competition.
Got my invitation to compete Friday.
Decisions, decisions..........
Everybody have a great day, afternoon, evening, night.
Happy New Years!

Today is a lazy day. Listening to some music and baking molasses cookies.

Mmmm! Cookies!

Church this morning and then got the pitcher, cups and candle holder put up in the built in china cabinet. Involves a ladder! Started a spaghetti squash baking to make "tater" tots out of. About ready to dust house and clean bathrooms. No Church tonight.

Got the christmas tree down and put up. today is hubby's birthday; Supper tonight is oysters, shrimp, steak, green beans and mashed taters with gravy and for dessert he asked for cherry cheesecake. Got to get all the laundry caught up and floors swept and mopped today and tomorrow. No sweeping or washing on new year's day . Supersticios I know, but my Grandmother wouldn't allow us to do either, so I guess it stuck.
