Here we go again. Once this next hurricane passes through it’s going to be Open Hunting Season on looters. Aim for center body mass, please.
Isnt that any weekend in Oakland or LA Without the Hurricane?

I lost home internet service.
Thats an advantage of satellite service , it still works with my Gen. Dont need cell Either.
Kinda why I am not worried about a radio in SHTF
I look at situations as you are in (while concerned) as training excercise.

We are fine, I have full power I can run for many months. I'm not without anything. The greater New Orleans area will be out of public utilities for a week or 2.
A year ago, I was Evaced with no power. Only had 8 hrs of fuel to run the the Gen So when I left, I shut it down. Lost a lot of food in the freezers
Now if I have to Evac that Gen is hooked up the propane. 6 months worth of fuel, at least. Even have 2 week plan for the horse water for an Evac..
You can never be too prepared.
I have been through my training Exercise.

Hay y'all! I'm still here. Just got cell service. Made it through another one. No power and a boil water notice is in effect. No problem with water, just run it through the Berkey. No flooding in my area. Minor damage so far. Some trees down roof shingles missing. Now stop worrying about me! LOL

A lot of sob stories are coming out now. I know this was a bad storm, but everyone down there could have prepped for it. At least a few days worth of food and water, a full tank of gas with a couple 5 gallon cans in case they wanted to bug out. Flash lights, a lantern or 2, emergency radio, batteries, water filter etc. All very basic stuff. Unless they're in an apartment everyone that's lived down there for more than a few months could/should have a generator by now.
Regardless, I hope everyone makes it through.

Training exercise. I am happy for those that were ready.
Just goes to show those who weren’t. I feel for those that will make sure they are better next time around.

BUT yet so many dont learn and we still a cycle every time we see a disturbance out in the Gulf.
. Hence why I feel for those who prepare for themselves and don’t for the ones that depend on FEMA. I know someday I might have to depend on FEMA, but it isn’t going to be day 1. Probably closer to Day 14 In a wildfire.

I will never rely on FEMA. I will rely on my own blood, sweat and tears. I have seen the lines waiting for help over the many years here to get water and MREs to eat. After almost 50 years, I have never stood in that line. The cars line up to slowly roll thru, even though there is a gas shortage. I find that just crazy. . . roll thru, pop a trunk and get loaded up. Just waste that gas, when it is so precious. . . .

I hope to never have to depend on them. I have evacuated 4 times in the past 4 years due to fire From 2 different locations.
Its tough being in a Evac shelter. The people in charge even left and left my wife in charge when the found out she was a vet. Small animal specialist vet in charge of an equine Evac place.
A couple of sleepless nights the first Evac. My wife was covered in horse blood for 2 days for one they one they ended up putting down. The Equine vet even insulted her efforts..
Oh, but we did get free food donated by a local feed store.
Really not going to intend to go back to one of theses places if we can help it.

That is horrible! Your poor wife, . . . You have to deal with fires in your area which makes you have to evacuate. Here, we just deal with hurricanes for the most part and we do not have to evacuate living 30 miles inland and normally do not flood, even with the 100 year flood of Harvey.

i grew up in WNY dealing with snow for 50 years, Spent 3 years at the tail end of Tornado Alley. Each area of the country has its challenges.
I don’t discount any of them . They are all survivable.
Living on your BOL and having to evacuate because of fire is the toughest emotionally. I haven’t done a a Hurricane, but my wife did Andrew.

I would be willing to deal with a hurricane over a fire any day.
