Nice article, but most people in the USA have never seen hyperinflation, or a depression, or even the stagflation we had in the 70s and 80s. Not living through something makes it hard to imagine what it would be like, or that it is even a possibility. It does not mean that it will not happen, but it does mean that most of us will not be ready when it does.......

From about 1973 to 1980 Alaska had roughly 24% inflation (I would say it was closer to 30'ish % inflation). Largely triggered and driven by the massive Pipeline Construction project.
From 1983 through 1991 76% of the Banks, Credit Unions, Savings & Loans in Alaska went "BANKRUPT". It was a true economic depression.
Strangely the Great Oil Spill (spring of 89') was the trigger that started economic recovery.

I had an up close and personal view of the gas shortages of 73' was almost caught in the middle of a gunfight at dad's gas station!
Not pretty, mail ran once a week, the stores were pretty bare.

Hyperinflation would have to be driven by devaluation of the dollar but the current inflation is looking like a shortage of product to be purchased.
