My MIL would have seen no problem with stringing the lights together like that.
My BIL would have seen no problem with the circuit breaker being tied on.
He added a couple of rooms onto his house and wired it all on the same line as his old bathroom by stripping the insulation off the wire and twisting the new wires around that and using a lot of electrical tape. When the breaker kept tripping he changed out the 20A for a 30A. Problem solved.
He wired a ceiling fan to 220 the same way and when I said look how fast that thing is turning. He replied yea that's a good fan. It lasted about 4 minutes before it burnt up then he realized he did have 220 wires in the attic after all.
He has passed on but the house is still somehow not burned down.
We call his repairs Jerry rigged.
