Medical bills are driving me nuts! I’ll pay them but I would like to know who I’m paying and why! I get bills with codes and numbers mixed with letters on them. I’m sure the codes mean something to someone but they mean absolutely nothing to me. Example, every time I have something done at the radiology dept in the small town near me I get a bill from a doctors group in Florida. I used to work on catscans so I’m pretty sure this bill is a radiologist reading fee.

But the bill DOES NOT say that! it just has codes and case numbers or file numbers. ENGLISH Please!!! Why can’t I get a bill that says…

Mr. Peanut, on December the 42nd you had an x-ray taken in the radiology department of Itchy Scratchy Hospital in Small Town. The x-ray was electronically sent to Dr. One Eye in Topeka Kansas. Dr. One Eye is a radiologist. He read your x-ray and sent a report to your doctor in Small Town. We, here in Florida, are associates of Dr. One Eye and handle billing for him. This bill of 43 cents is the portion of Dr. One Eye’s reading fee that was not paid by your medical insurance. Please remit soonest to us here in sunny Florida. Thank you in advance.

Something understandable that makes sense! Something that anyone can understand! :switch:

When I get a phone bill or power bill or credit card bill everything is written in understandable terms. If I make a long-distance call, even the number I called is on the bill.

Why can’t medical bills make sense?:Thankyou:

Because people might actually read them and get upset over the prices for simple items and services.

I have a big rant...young lady wrote on FB she was desperate, hubby going in service, she had a baby, no one would help...would anyone take them in and let them pay the rent when his checks came in....we talked it over and told her we would help...let them move in our rental....he went in the service...months go by...no rent...almost four months pass and I told her she would have to move in with family, but her mother who lives here would not take her in...she did a big go fund me page and all that crap...one of the relatives called and and paid the rent plus a small deposit. The next few months were horrible...trying to get rent from her..she can drive a nice car, has a fancy phone, but felt entitled. She decided to move in with a relative in a near by town and they could share expenses. She was supposed to be out the last of the month....NOPE...she kept demanding the deposit. I had called the woman who paid the rent and told her we would be returning the deposit to her which this girl was not aware of...we have gone through two days of hades. We have lost another month of rent...I called the relative and told her this girl was giving me fits....she called her and told her she had to be out of my house by a certain time today, that every thing was fine between the two of us...finally got rid of her tonight.....the house is dirty, so will require cleaning....my hubby told me I will never be able to try to help someone again, these people just feel like the world owes them a living. Want to pull my hair out....Thank God and Greyhound, she's gone....LOL
This is such a common scenario. This woman knows how to play victim and to manipulate. This is what some people do best. Rent and clean up fees could be deducted from the deposit. Isn't that what deposits are for?

So 1-2 times a year a state politician will decide he or she needs to meet with the entire division to have some kind of meeting. Usually just to throw out some buzzwords, talk about public safety, get some pictures taken and pretend like they are somehow making a difference. Today was that day. AG sends out the announcement saying the Lt. Governor wants a meeting. We got a whopping 6 days notice for the 'mandatory meeting', which is no small feet when you operate 24/7 and they still expect everyone to be there. So we do a fair job of filling up the auditorium and we wait. Chief gets up and talks for 10 minutes then introduces some functionary. She gets up talks for about 20 minutes about some feel-good but otherwise pointless project the Governor is part of then says the Lt. Gov can't make it and we will have to reschedule in a couple weeks. 3 hours of overtime for every single civil service employee in the room, many of who came in on their days off and when they normally sleep, and we will just have to reschedule because something came up. [insert raised middle finger here]

I get so sick of Trump ,Shulkin, and other big time gov officials, putting on a big show , about how much they LOVE Veterans,
and how much they are doing for veterans..

I can tell you that all the time they are doing that....they are doing things behind closed doors that take away from veterans...
But that you don't hear about.
:dunno:

It's all about show.

There are a whole bunch of shows all the time by politicians. Doesn't it make all of us jaded? And for Vets, it is a slap in the face. I am sorry for all of the people who offered their lives in defense of our country to then get treated like this.

I was so excited last year , when I found out that the VA provided me a ride from my door to my Doctor in St Louis, and back to my door.
That was awesome. I went 6 times.

I had one last appointment for Jan 15, 2018...
Called to arrange for pickup...

Took me 3 days and a lot of runaround...before I finally got the facts...

Long story short, was told it was costing too much and was no longer provided...I canceled my last Doctors appointment.:dunno:

Yep 1-1-18 , no longer can do....costing too much.:eyeballs::mad:

I suppose our administrator didn't get his BONUS last year.:horsie:

Its lots better down there than up here, our Prime Minster Justin Trudeau has given billions away, wants to reintegrate ISIS terrorists into our society, gave $10.5 million and an apology to convicted terrorist, thrown the gates open for huge Muslim immigration and recently told a disabled vet in a public form when asked about why vets had to sue the government to get benefits they were promised was told that "They are asking for things that we cannot give"

Those kind of meetings make me want to say too much. Last meeting I went to was commish meeting, what a joke those people are. Wanted a 17 acre city hall! I ask what in the heck do they need 17 acres and who is getting cutbacks on that sale, not good to make enemies out of local small town dictators. One woman was complaining because wheelchair ramp for 3 steps had an incline .

Sister-in-law was in an accident and didn't follow her Doctor's instruction which lead to more medical complications. Because of these complications and the addition of a hundred pounds of Thunder Thighs Sister-in-law is now on total disability.

Sister-in-law's son is extremely overweight and lived in a federal subsidized apartment until he failed to refile for assistance. He went back to living with his mom. He latter died from not following his Doctor's instructions, obesity and smoking.

Sister-in-law's son son (grandson, a legal adult). Kicked out of his grandmother's house for not obeying her and she swears she will not let him come back. He goes to live with his mother, grandmother, father's friend, grandmother, girlfriend parents, grandmother, great grandmother and now presently back at his grandmothers. In the middle of this he stole a vehicle. Judge gave him 30 days to get his GED, get a job and make restitution. 30 days later the Judge gives him a 30 day extension. Grandmother is upset with the Judge for being sooooooo lenient, in other word for treating her grandson the same way the grandmother treats him. 90 days later she gets him a job at a big box store and is doing his laundry, fixes his meals, drives him to and from his job and picks up after him and then complains he isn't self sufficient. He collects partial benefits from the Fed from his dad's death.

At least I know my tax-money is staying within the family.

Well it may be fine that your taxes support your family but it's not OK that mine do too.
(sorry, just making a point and not trying to insinuate anything other than a lot of people are paying for a lot of others that really don't deserve it)
I'm a firm believer in the attitude that Jamestown took on after a year in operation; If you don't contribute, you don't eat. Everyone can contribute in some way. (other than serving as a bad example)

The Bible says the same thing, " if a man doesn't work ,he doesn't eat".paraquote .

I think charity is a good thing if given to the legitimate poor but government doesn't have the right to be charitable with other peoples money.

It isn't charity to give away someone else's money - it's theft. Charity worked for decades in this country until the government stepped in. Those receiving it don't know or care where that money comes from. Just like the sign says in the parks: "Don't feed the animals, they forget how to fend for themselves."

My friend feeds here birds. She spends hundreds of dollars a month on them. I bet they would all die if she stopped feeding them .
Robin Hood mentality doesn't work in a free country and neither does its people for long. Nor do they stay free.

I remember reading the bill for my daughter's birth. I had yet to be diagnosed with bursitis in my hip, but that night, after she was born, I couldn't sleep because of the pain. The doctor checked it out, diagnosed it and then put in a request for some over the counter pain meds. I don't remember the price of two pills, but I do remember thinking that I could have bought more than one bottle of the same meds at my local drug store. This is the kind of stuff that people get outraged about. Yes, it took someone to get it from the pharmacy or hospital meds, and another person to bring it down to me and administer it.

The costliest part of meds at the hospital is in the management and record keeping mandated by the government. If you took the government out of medicine it would cost about 1% of what it does now.

My youngest has migraines. Her generic Imatrex is $1200 for the non insurance price at Wal-Mart for 9 pills. Our copay was $250. My Dr moved to a non profit clinic and they have a in house pharmacy. They charge $1 over cost. The 9 pills we had been paying $250 for, cost us $6 at the non profit pharmacy. For the same med. Guess where all our prescriptions go now?

Three days ago a government functionary (working for a politician) called my office and demanded all of our statistics on "training we put on for others". I asked them to clarify what she meant by training and others, She said "Training is a pretty clear term and others would be anyone who does not work for you". So I put together the stats for all the training we put on in 2017 for other law enforcement agencies or officers around the state, to include academy training.

Two days ago she called back all upset because that info was NOT the info they wanted. They wanted the stats on all of the training we do for the general public. I told them we do not train the general public. The functionary was obviously not happy and just said "Okay, whatever" and hung up. Later she called again and this time she said she wanted all of the "training we do for people, like how not to get raped". I explained what she was talking about was called either a program or a presentation, depending on if it followed a prescribed course and/or the instructor was certified and/or if we followed a lesson plan. She seemed so confused by this I actually ended up sending her and the politician she works for a memo describing the difference between a training, a program and a presentation. They both responded that they "knew the difference". They didn't because apparently two other state agencies also sent in the wrong data.

Yesterday she called again and now on Monday the politician wants to have a meeting with me, my boss, someone from the AG's office, public relations, two other state LE agencies and a host of other people so we can all "define these terms". Apparently the terms training, programs and presentations all remain too difficult for them to understand. Of course no one else is having these problems but we all have to meet just the same. And I assure you, this meeting will end up resulting in the formation of a committee or a task-force.

Welcome to government employment.

Yeah, as soon as you said Politician, stats and training, a task force was on the way to being created. I once had seven meeting in one day and absolutely nothing was resolved in any of the meetings. Started at 7 am. and ended at 7 p.m.. Just super glad to be retired. The bigger the organization the worse the wasted time becomes. Little companies can't afford to spend the time talking, they need to get it done.

I. Hate. Extension. Chords!!
If I was falling off of the Empire State Building and there was a parachute and a 25' extension chord laying at the edge, I'd grab the chord. The parachute might not open, but that chord would snag something within 5 feet! Guaranteed!

Friend ask the hospital to explain the bill in English for delivering his new daughter. After he heard the Hospital's explanation he said the bill is incorrect. Hospital got a little huffy with him until he pointed out the charge for the circumcision...for his daughter...who obviously isn't a male.

When I was a kid in rural Vermont, every town had someone saddled with the duty called Overseer of the Poor. (S)He knew the folks that got the food and clothing and shelter. Maybe it's better now (getting labeled "poor" was an onus folks tried to get out of), but I ain't sure there's any pride now in 'making your own way'.

So my rant for today... one of the forums I frequent is for a particular online game I play. There was a post about a tool that the person was making to help those using Linux install mods for the game.

So, I posted I was leery as this was one post, the first, that this person made. I asked if anyone had looked at the code yet since I’m not in the habit of installing random files from the internet from unknown sources. You would have thought I committed high treason or something simply because I dared to ask such a question.

Have people truly become so thin skinned that a question can’t be asked without them looking for their “safe place”to hide in? I actually liked his idea and was hoping something would be developed but now I’ll never look at the question or tool again. It’s simply not worth the drama. More and more it seems I want to steer away from online interactions to avoid drama. Just seems to be a sign of the times I guess in some places.

Anyway, time for lunch and a nap.

I consider your input to be not only inoffensive, but also a boon to the forum.

I feel the 'need to speak' with increasing frequency nowadays. So far I haven't given up on humanity, even though civilization seems to be tipping toward an abyss - and taking our planet with it.

Went in today for my annual health screening / physical (as required by the state). Across the board I was normal in everything from blood pressure to A1C to cholesterol to resting heart rate. No concerns until the nurse practitioner gets all worried over my weight. 243# at 6'2", oh no! I am apparently "obese" because the chart says I am supposed to weigh 165-178#. I told her I have not weighed 178# since I was in middle school and that her chart was as accurate as a The Huffington Post. I offered to take a body fat test and flexed my left arm for her, but she was not impressed. She checked off my form with "green boxes" on every single category but weight, she gave me a "red box". Which means now I will get a call from my health insurance mandating I take an online class on healthy eating (e.g. not actually healthy) and exercise if I want my wellness bonus and reduced deductible. Stupid.

I just had the most ridiculous complaint yet,

No S#it this just was a complaint that came down from one of the members of this club...

One of my menu items on my breakfast menu isn't sexually inclusive....
