Sailing the Salton Sea!!!

Found an old thread at a different website, and I was able to lift a few of my photos from that site... we'll start with shots of Salton Expedition II, wherein I solo sailed the length of the Salton Sea (about 30 nautical miles, due to evaporation and a shrinking shoreline). I pulled a couple shots of my excellent free bivouac site in Painted Canyon in the Mecca Hills, a few short miles from my launch site the following day:

Nice shady spot for my campsite, you can see my 12' Minifish (smaller cousin to the Sunfish) atop 'The Mighty Camry'---the car trunk was full of firewood, lol. Here we are sailing the Salton Sea the next day:

Ah, yes, a grand nautical adventure... the Salton is actually a radical sailing venue, most folks are clueless about it, as they never get past the foul-smelling muck & shoals of rotting fishbones which line the lakeshore. In terms of geology and physical geography, it IS a lake, not a "sea." The water is FUNKY, you don't wanna capsize in the Salton... you'd probably dissolve as if you were in a vat of acid, lol. Never did finish the Z-Flex 'Z' on the mainsail, it's a long story so I won't get into it here, lol, except to say that the boat underwent several themes & modifications while in my possession. Here is the 'HEART OF DIXIE' (a nod to Peanut here, lol) right after I bought her off C/L for $200, repaired her hull and slapped some cheap enamel on her... with my Laser, I always used 2-part LP or Linear Polyurethane, the best choice for small craft hulls which work in a seaway, but I was on a budget this time and just wanted to go sailing, lol. One shot shows the coordinated mainsail for my little 'Confederate Gunboat'---the shot taken on the first Salton Expedition as a friend & I sailed the breadth of the Salton Sea.

Ah, she was a grand little boat... just as hard & battle-worthy as my Laser, lol. Here's a shot of the rig taken at a later date, when the boat had a Wild West theme:

P.S. See that Crudweiser shot taken during the latter half of my voyage in Salton Expedition II? One fine day, long after I'm dead and the Salton has vanished from the face of the earth, that ridiculous friggin' Crudweiser shot will make me famous, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Meh, better late than never, I reckon...

Happened to see some other shots which aren't related to the Salton but are still pretty funny, lol. These Z50 shots are for Magus... they were taken right after I bought the bike and slapped some stickers on it, lol. Later, the bike was tricked out to the max, but these shots show my little offroad rocket at the outset of our acquaintance. The bike already had a 72cc motor when I bought her, so the Honda Z50 moniker isn't quite accurate... before I was finished with the bike, it had a 140cc Piranha motor, lol. Anyway, here ya go, Magus, the DK sticker has your name all over it, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

What else do we have? Oh, yeah, a couple of shots of a guy making sand castles on the beach in my home town, that's the Hotel Del Coronado in the background in one shot, Point Loma in the other...

Pretty cool castles, yeah? That's an old beach cruiser of mine, nothing fancy, not one of my tricked-out bikes, lol. Those two little puppies were under my care at the time, and I felt like going for a beach cruise, so I threw a beach towel in that basket and set the dogs in there so they could go with me, lol. Later, I let 'em get down and run around in the sand, but that was in another area where there were less people. Well, that's it for now, I should bag more sailing pics from that website, but I can't be bothered right now, I'll do it later, lol...

You're braver than I am, @Wingnut ! I was working on the rail line that follows the east side of the Salton Sea up from Niland a few years back. After work a buddy and I decided to check out the lake. We couldn't figure out why there was absolutely no vehicles in the parking lot along this beautiful stretch of shoreline. Then, we got out of the car...

Oh lord, the stench hit us immediately. We still walked down to the water's edge, but when we saw the water was orange and there was a three foot thick line of dead fish along the shore, we noped out of there and headed back to the hotel in Brawley. The Salton Sea might be the most disgusting body of water I've ever seen...

When your bootied feet slog through foul-smelling muck & shoals of rotting fishbones as you launch your boat, the gases released make their way to the surface and the stench is abominable, enough to gag a maggot... just heinous, like the worst thing you've ever smelled, lol. However, once you get under way and sail a mile or more offshore, the foul odors are replaced by fresh breeze and the Salton becomes a better place. So many folks never make it past the muck & rotting fishbones, which are the product of massive die-offs in the lake. Those die-offs are caused by algae blooms which rob the lake water of oxygen. I suppose the algae blooms are fed by all the agricultural runoff... mismanagement of the Salton Sea has led to a nasty mix of chemicals and rotting organisms, and it's no place for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. I pulled my Salton Expeditions (I & II) because NOBODY else sails small craft the length of this lake, though a few intrepid kayakers get out there once in a great while...

P.S. Sailing the length of the Salton Sea was on my 'bucket list' prior to bailing outta the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia... so few living folks have done it, it was just cryin' to be done, lol. The desert & mountain vistas are absolutely incredible too, totally worth the effort and the negative aspects. I'll have to post more pics, maybe later today... hell, I haven't even started my 'Road Safety' thread, but I got sidetracked this past week, lol. Meh, I'll get around to it, it's only a matter of time, lol. Right now, I believe I'll take the kittens outside and do a little watering in the yard...

This morning, while I was watering trees & plants in the yard, I started thinking about my Salton Expeditions, which were absolutely incredible adventures, despite the poor condition of the Salton due to mismanagement by scumbag politicians and corrupt water district officials. In many ways, my current life is much like those voyages... think of the Salton as the United States, on the decline and all F/U, with yours truly trying to make the most of a bad situation. That's what life has become here in the U.S., once the greatest superpower on the planet. I liken my efforts to live well in the boondocks to those classic voyages: with some serious planning, I can still have a good time, but those scumbag politicians and their stinking globalist masters aren't making it any easier. Anymore, it seems like freedom is what YOU personally make of it, DESPITE all the efforts of scumbag politicians and dirty globalist swine to RUIN this once-great nation.

Moi, I like the wilderness, that seems to be the last bastion of freedom in this country... and in many ways, the Salton IS wilderness, thanks to the state it's in due to p!ss-poor management. The foul-smelling muck & shoals of rotting fishbones along the shore are synonymous with the stench of corruption in our gubmint, and the death of public trust. I look at the ZOG CIA, FBI, DOJ, and all the other alphabet agencies, and they're ALL rotten to the core, just like the muck & rotting fishbones which line the Salton. They STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN too, just like the muck & rotting fishbones. Makes me wonder where this country went wrong... the principles laid out by our Founding Fathers seemed sound, but look at what this country has become today. A F#%NG TRAVESTY... absolutely disgusting. Some say love it or leave it: if I had the F#%NG MONEY, I'd bail from this rotten & corrupt $h!thole just as fast as I could buy a boat and sail away.

And it may still come down to that if things keep getting worse... I'll buy one of those fake Covid jab certificates and leave this dump far astern. Head down to Australia and try my luck as an illegal immigrant, lol. Maybe find a home somewhere in the South Seas... marry some tribal chieftain's ugly daughter just to give her U.S. citizenship, and give me a place to live out the rest of my days. No physical contact involved, strictly a business deal, lol... "GOOD LUCK STATESIDE, DARLIN'!" And then, sotto voce: "Yer gonna need it." I'll live in a seaside hut on the far side of the island, so I don't have to deal with the bloody wogs... spend the rest of my days sailing & fishing off the coral reef, BBQing Mahi Mahi & Sword every night and drinking coconut liquor, lol. Meh, life could be worse... I could still be in the U.S. Seriously, without armed revolution to make things right in this country, I just see it swirling down the $h!tter, since these dirty globalist swine and their bought & sold scumbag politicians, judges, ZOG trash, etc, are hellbent upon destroying this nation.

Meh, these are the thoughts & reflections I had today while watering, and seeing so many plants struggling & dying in the ongoing heat. Like the death of freedom in this country, ya know? True citizens & patriots face so much adversity, thanks to dirty globalist swine, scumbag politicians, corrupt POS judges, and all the ZOG trash bought & sold like so many branded & ear-tagged cattle. That dirty money sure buys a whole heap of scumbags... each and every one has his or her own price. It's f#%ng disgusting, really, the GREED behind it all. Some folks say money is the root of all evil, but I say greed is the culprit. Thank goodness I've never been infected with the sickness of greed, I'm content with what I have and will try to remain flexible in years ahead as this country continues to decline. Like I said, nothing short of armed revolution is gonna fix this F/U $h!tty mess. The country will become like the Salton, a wasteland with occasional glimpses of great natural beauty on the horizon... out of reach to citizens, but there all the same to tantalize the imagination.
