Without double-checking my spreadsheet, this is 18 pounds, 3.4 oz of base weight (pack and everything in it except food, water, and fuel), 20 pounds, 4.7 oz in the pack (including the pack itself), and 27 pounds, 3.4 oz "from skin out" (total weight, including the clothes I'll be wearing, phone on my belt, and poles in my hands).

I keep several items alongside (but separate) from this pack so that I can convert it to a GHB very quickly (obviously at the cost of some more weight). These items include a pistol w/ spare mags, radio, hiking boots, water, a bigger knife, and a few miscellaneous items.

All said and done, I have right around $2,000 in this setup, not including what I previously owned. However, this is really my everyday hiking pack for leisure. A couple years ago, I estimated what my setup would be if I spent only $500 on it, and the result was around 6 pounds heavier, less insulation, less comfort, and no redundancies. That's still very doable from a GHB perspective as long as the pack fits the user well.

Admiral:

Folks with physical limitations, every once carried is important. Granted $2,000 is a bit high for the fixed budget folks (me) it can also be acquired in affordable quantities. Spread the cost out over time and it is doable, without breaking the bank. Admiral, thanks for the list and info. Copied, pasted and converted into PDF. :Thankyou: :great: :woo hoo:

Dang, there are things on that list I never even considered. We should sticky this somewhere, maybe.
