Took Roo to run my very last errand before Christmas. We had to get the fresh veggies. I walked her through the store and she asked all kinds of questions about the different veggies. She has never seen Brussels sprouts on the stalk so I explained how they grew. She was curious about the purple sweet potatoes and the produce manager gave us a piece of one for us to take home cook and her to try. Since the store wasn't crowded it was nice to have a relaxing educational trip with her.

When we got home we put the groceries away and I started dinner. After the kitchen was cleaned and leftovers put away I make this years first batch of krispie treats. I would have made them sooner but being sick doesn't make me want to bake or cook.
 
We went to the movies tonight. About 10 minutes in some one started banging on the emergency exit. They did that a couple of times getting louder every time. The first thing that went through my mind was(close your eyes Sentry) "glad I'm breaking the law right now". I had my hand in my bag, hubby had his hand in his pocket. As I looked around I noticed quite a few people sitting in awkward positions watching the door too. I think lots of us were ignoring the little sign that was on the front door. The kids in front of us were really nervous and one went and notified security. Nothing came of it, probably a kid trying to sneak in, but I was comforted by the number of people who seemed to be alert for trouble and ready to react.

Picked up a new toy today. I want two of them and this one will be the wifes/loaner. It's older being a 94 but it was owned by an older couple who barely used it and maintained the heck out of it. 1000 miles on it, fires right up and runs like a champ. If you want to mod it up a little i used to race and build them. Just saying....
 
Rain with snow coming today so I too am inside. Cleaning out the office, washing the Carhartt's, getting Christmas ready.

Had a good day yesterday.
- Normal chores in the AM
- Picked up 120 gallons of gas.
- Went down the road and split the rest of a neighbor's firewood for him.
- Put away the log splitter and related firewood processing equipment as I'm done until Spring.
- Got Mrs. Zoomzoom's Christmas present of new snow tires/rims delivered so I put those on her car. Took the summer tires to the bunker for storage.
- Loaded up the wood trailers and brought them to the house.
- Cleaned the shop.
- Had a few beers.

I also worked at A & W and was a carhop on roller skates. Didn't like catering to the Friday night car full of boys. That was in 1977 in California. I did like the roller skates, because I spent alot of time at the roller rink.

I enjoyed working there and made pretty good money for the times. I had fun with the boys most of the time. Back then they had manners when they flirted.

Had a strange day today. We've had the granddaughters for a couple of days, (in our 5th wheel camper) and the oldest one woke up with a 104° degree temp. So my wife rushed around getting them ready to go home while I made waffles. I had told a guy that fell out of his camper at the campground and broke his neck that I would show his nephew how to take down his camper and hook his truck up to it. It has been one thunderstorm after another here for 24 plus hours with solid rain between storms. After breakfast we loaded the kids up and took off for Lexington which is about 45 minutes away. Halfway there the Dr office called and said my special knee brace was in, so after dropping the girls off at their mama's house we went on to Jackson. About halfway to the Dr office my wife realized her purse was at our daughter's house. We kept on going and finally got there and was fitted for the brace. Stopped back in Lexington and got her purse. Went to the campground and helped those pore ole boys take down the camper and hook it up to the truck. I rode with them for a little bit and gave them some pointers on driving. Took my wife home finally and put her to bed with a migraine. Phew!! I went to the shop and worked on my crossbow.
That's my story of the day. Who said retirement was boring didn't have kids or friends.

Goodness Gump, you had a very trying day but it looks like it ended well.

Our day started off at feed store dog food. Now it is back to the Gh and house cleaning.

Good to hear about someone not far from me. I like the jobs like put in a window. Put in a door. fix this hole. fix the stove. all that little stuff no one cares about. I've gotten some big jobs that way. I have several clients with vacant houses who have had me come into a house and do bathroom renovations, repaint the whole interior, rebuild whole front porches, etc. Some of them were 2-3 month remodels by myself.

Right now the primary handyman vehicle is a 2005 prius but am on the hunt for a cargo van for under 2K

I have always had a van since 1967.

The boy and I got up early and set in our stands, nothing much moving this morning and Jake got cold. We came home and the wife made bacon, eggs, gravy and toast. Then we warmed our bones in the hot tub. Now off to town for some stocking stuffers.

We have a van... a 2002 Honda Odyssey. I don't want to permanently junk it up with handyman shelving plus it's not long enough for full sheets of plywood and doors. I used to have a 1994 Dodge Dakota with a contractors topper. Very nice setup but too small and truck was nickel and diming me to death with repairs, got fed up with it and sold it a month ago.

I couldn't stay in the house. One of the front supports on the 5th wheel was being washed out from under. Had to Jack it up, redirect the water dig down to solid ground and relevel. Good to go now. While I was out in the mud, I cleared out a few trees that had to go, dug a ditch to drain the footing, and, well, you get the idea.
 
Today was Christmas at Grandma’s. She’s 97 and suffers from dementia (sad part). The crowd was small, I counted 36. Grandma had 10 kids so there should have been twice that many there. Still, 5 generations were represented. It was a pretty good day all in all, lots of good food. We always use the extra large oval paper plates. I managed to get more food on it than I could eat. I just nibbled at the desert table afterward. Someone made one of my favorites, toasted Tommy Toes with cheese on top.

Don’t ask me who Tommy was or what his toes looked like. Tommy toes are the local name for small grape or salad tomatoes. You slice them in half, sprinkle on some cheese and garlic and toast them. They make tiny little yummy bites.

The rains stopped before daylight. Cold winds have since blown in, down right chilly outside. I hope everyone has a great holiday!:USA:
 
Filled my house with guests yesterday, smoked a couple pork tenderloins and watched a bunch of really old 8mm reels we had converted into digital files. Was fun seeing my Mom & Dad from before I was born as well as all the relatives that have long since passed on. Today we have church a couple times with a few meals and some Christmas fun in between. Plus we have just enough snow on the ground for the kids to get some good outdoor play time or for me to have a white Christmas. Merry Christmas Eve!
