@Patchouli I used yellowpages. Found the Laird's septic service. Called & was told the old jerk died but they are still doing the services under his name. Prices more than doubled. Ugh. They said it would be around $650. I'm supposed to get it done every 7 years but it's been 9. Hopefully it hasn't overflowed. It was $240 last time I had the tank drained-- but that was a 500 gallon tank and new one is 1k. They are supposed to come out tomorrow if they can get their truck fixed.

oh haha, @zannej I meant for finding apartment rentals.
I'm glad I haven't had to deal with septic pumping in a few years. A friend has hers rigged up so that her dishwater, laundry water, and shower water go out into the yard instead of into the septic, come to think of it, she might be paying for city water/sewage services.

I took a break from digging to run the hydro snake from the bottom of the drain line. It was interesting seeing what came out of the line. I can only guess that there may still be a 3-5 foot section of the pipe left the clear.

I am going to do a lot of thinking about returning to the shovel and just dig up the line and replacing it all. If the issue end up being roots, the problem is coming back when I am older and less capable.

May just do that.

Ben
Ben, we had a problem years back with roots. What has helped here is an access pipe in the yard, pvc with a cap, where once yearly we uncover and dump a container of root killer. Our drainage pipe goes out to the woods, and this remedy seems to be doing the trick for 20+ years now.

@Supervisor42 you mean you're going out amongst the zombies, licking doorknobs, breathing in hard when they cough, and licking the bottoms of your shoes when you get home?
Another kid leaving the nest. Another one left recently. It is an adjustment. New stuff going on at work, hoping for a positive outcome.
After being out in the boonies last night, then driving in the midst of the traffic jams and rush hour today, I really wish I could get away permanently.
Little towns we drove through look like 1970s vintage and poor. Then the surrounding areas get turned into vacation, ranch, oil, or hunting lands which means the cost of buying out there, at least for me, will always be out of reach. Time to set my sights elsewhere I suppose.

No, when our 4 relatives that went to the casino in Shreveport for a couple of days for hurricane Ida, drove down for hours in the confined interior of their car, they brought it with them when they stayed with us for 2 days.
I know everything about Delta now.
We have so many threads about 'tha crud' on here I didn't want to stink this one up with it too.:(

@zannej ...
Congratulations, @The Lazy L at least you entered the competition.....

I compete more to get off the property and work on my people skills (or the lack thereof). I know I'll never compete with the young pups but it does help keep what skills I have left tuned.

When I used to compete, I often came in second: also sound great other than the fact that it was usually me and a gal who placed high at state competitions. I am a runt and she is 6' tall. We probably had the most fun though - nice gal.

Thanks for that. I will incorporate that into my plans.

Thought
The one thing that seperates humans from other animals is our ability to learn from other that we have never met through the written word.

Over night I decided I will dig up the drain lines and do it right. 35 years ago I was a 20-something with basic ideas but never thought about including clean outs etc. So I woke up with plans to dig but the rain said no. Oh bother!

While watchi g the radar a friend stopped by and showed me some alignment pins he purchased for a modular N-scale train layout he want to build. I examined them and pointed out they have about a 5-10 thousands play. He agreed that was too much and gave them to me to be integrated into my hardware store. Note: N-scale is so small a 0.005" misalignment will result in derailment.

After he departed I stowed the pins in my shop and decided I would use part of my tool budget to purchase some precision dowel pins for my machine shop arsenal. My machining studies (aka Youtube videos) have repeatedly taught me that dowel pins are the way to go if I want precision alignment of parts. Never rely on a screw.

Ordered 3 sets to fill that gap in my machining supplies and at the same time be able to help out my buddy with his needs. Helping him out will let me practice first hand and verify I have the right tools and skills. A win win.

So while I did not move dirt, I did take a step forward toward my TEOTWAWKI machine shop.

Behave!

The Princess used to compete in Kung-fu. Not anymore. She would be competing against others that are 25 years younger than her in the Seniors division.

I do believe that we are over the covid . We're still very weak but feel fine.
Been moving a lot of stuff the last 3 days.
Got the bathroom finished , except for installing doors on stall.

Friend came and helped me move some heavier things today.

Things are going along just fine, little by little.

Hope all of you are doing ok.
Pray for Hashbrown , he is in hospital.

He's gonna be ok.

Thank you Lord.

Jim

Patchouli, oops. I think they have been checking FB marketplace. No craigslist for our area. They think they might have found a place near another friend's home but are not sure.

Jim, I hope you recover quickly.

Also hope HB will be OK. Please send my well-wishes if you can get in touch with him. I'm sending virtual hugs to him and his family.

I surprised my mom by cooking shepherd's pie. I finished cooking it and went in to grab her bowl and wash it & she said "I'm getting hungry". I made a silly face at her and told her there was no food. She asked me what I was cooking and thanked me when I told her.

I think I'm getting closer to finding a solution to my well/pump situation but I need to figure out the mess of wiring in there because it is a clusterf***.

Gonna be a very busy day.
Got my friend coming to help today.
So I take full advantage of Help .
We will be moving some heavy items today.

No remodel work today. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel...hope it ain't a train.

I'm tired, I'm sore from yesterday. No pain no gain.

Lord , keep us all safe and please heal Hashbrown.

Jim

First, praying for Hashbrown! Hope he will be recovering quickly!

Walked first this morning.
Made a lot of cauliflower rice to add my yellow rice seasoning to. I have 2 pounds of kidney beans soaking in the slow cooker to cook tonight.
Have to set up DH's meds.
Take eBay photos.
Make Fig Pepper Jam
Maybe start on closet, maybe not.

Just got off the phone. We've been waiting for someone to be able to drill a well on the land we bought this spring/summer. We are on the list for 6 different drillers. It seems the main issue is that they can't get the casings. We were told to get the permit, we did, and as soon as they can get to us they will. Till then I'll be hauling water and keep being impatient.....

It was amazing watching the pop up showers form just east of me but nothing here. Looks like God let me have the chance to dig today. Yeah!

At the start of the day...

What slowed me down was all of the concrete rubble i had buried there.

Should be back at tomorrow.

Ben

Jim, I have to say you are a strong person. I don't even have the energy to do what you've done while sick when I am feeling ok. LOL.

Terri, I hope they will be able to get the casings and get the well done soon. I am interested in what sort of system you plan to get and any photos etc. I'd love to see what the plans are. I kinda wish I could gut my system and start over because it's such a mess, but it provides water so that's a bonus.

Septic service called before 8am and woke me up. I was confused as to what the ringing sound was and then realized it was the phone. Answered and he was on my road asking for directions. I explained to him he needed to take a right at the fork and then I could see his truck. I went out and showed him where the septic tank was. He didn't even know the price but his boss had pre-written a receipt. Said that normally it's lower but they charge a lot for dumping sewage and the closer and less expensive dump site is currently closed for maintenance so the have to drive farther and pay more to dump. He drained it very thoroughly, told me to run a lot of water in to it so the rain didn't cause any problems, and I got a check from Mom (since we didn't have cash). He handed over the receipt and put the lids back on (waited until he was paid to do that) and headed out. While I was out there, the dog excitedly ran through the wet grass, stepped in cow crap with her wet front paws, and then jumped up on me.

I cooked for mom, brought in a heavy package from the porch, took a breather, fed the cats, refilled the water for the dogs, refilled water for the cats, fed the kitties, cleaned the window sill above the kitchen sink, killed a bunch of fire ants in front of the sink, went out and got pictures of the cistern and the setup in the well shed, then back inside to put the contents of the package away (packs of shea butter wipes-- mom buys them in bulk), watched the news with Mom, and now I'm resting.

I have decided that I am going to set 3 tasks for myself each day and I won't let myself play any online games until I have completed those tasks. I need to get my fat a$$ in gear to be more productive.

@INresponse Hope you're taking it easy and not over-doing it. Also, hope you are finished w/ drywall.
@phideaux It will be nice when you get to lay your head down to sleep in your new place and know you are finished moving.
Prayers for HB!
Drywall hanging is done. Started today mudding screw holes and mudded and taped the joints in a closet. Had to do that by hand but needed it done so I can stash clutter in there. A friend has a drywall banjo, just need to get it here. Moving stuff into that closet tonight after dinner. Tomorrow I get to mud more screws then empty out the trailer so Saturday I can go to Vegas to get the last of my stuff out of the house.
Take it easy, not sure I know how to do that.

Today went long, after work I looked at the car tent... saw a rip down the center top (result of last storm)... I have new fabric but it is a big job... It will give me something to do instead of hunting tomorrow...... not happy.

Sometimes it is one step forward and 2 steps back....

Started putting together "Bugs" quilt top this morning.
Putting together knitted "Washcloths" blanket for gift closet.
Knitting washcloths, hand towels soap bag for Veterans care baskets for Christmas.
Jim,
Tell Hashbrown to get well.
Prayers going out to Hashbrown and his beloved wife and son.

Its just going to be a basic deep well so we can water the cows. No idea how far they'll have to go, wells range anywhere between 10 to 500 ft deep in this area.
