In a cabin, on a mountain, in "Wilderness" Alaska.
This if accelerated by many retailers, could be a problem. Strange that for the most part, people don't see shoplifting as a crime.

Well good for the folks of Portland. They brought this on themselves without a doubt
Portland should be renamed Antifa village or Woke to Cluelessness, anymore we will not even go through Portland, stop and go traffic on I-5 is a daily occurence in that area and as it is I-5 is the west coast NAFTA route from Mexico to Canada where there are far more big trucks than automobiles, a good deal of the time. The trucks are hauling all the things that the railroad used to haul, this is all going to be very interesting to see what happens when California cut off the diesel. I have a hard time imagining electric big rigs even coming close to what diesel rigs can do now. California already has a problem with enough electricity to charge EV's, can you see what it would be like to charge big trucks?

I have no sympathy at all! There is so much shoplifting that has be happening and no police help. What else can they do? The sad part is that honest people will have to drive further to go to a Wal-Mart to "save money" on the product they buy. And the gas prices are only going to go higher once the reserves are totally drained.

No bad news here...
They will finally be free like me, and never have to set foot in a Wal-Mart again!

No, shoplifting is seen as a crime, but it has become small potatoes and not dealt with anymore. They rarely arrest or prosecute for shoplifting anymore.
I talked to a manager of a Safeway when their grocery carts were always being taken by homeless people and there were no carts to be used when shopping. He told me that if someone walks in, grabs a basket or cart, fills it up and walks out, there is little they can do and it happened a lot, around 100 carts a week. One Safeway had a hard time keeping carts at all. Then miles away in a nicer suburb, the carts started disappearing there when the homeless moved out there.
I've also read this about Home Depot as well. $50 worth of goods? They don't even stop people for that, and thieves know it.

I stay pretty close to home and usually only drive to places as close as possible. I had to take a longer drive recently and saw so many stores that are now closed. I have been hearing about how bare our local Walgreen stores are. I'd bet they have dealt with a lot of theft as well. If the shelves are empty, thieves can't take anything.

This happens from time to time in democrap run cities. Either shoplifting or looting drives the stores to shut down. The jobs go away and these areas become food deserts. Sales taxes are lost, property taxes are lost. No jobs means other businesses shut. Eventually you wind up with a Baltimore or a Detroit.

Countdown to idiots screaming racism and bemoaning food deserts in 3...2...

I would bet dollars to donuts that the geniouses in Portland never thought that if Wal Mart leaves these thieves are just going to move on to another retail store. I can see there is no love lost on Wal Mart, but their leaving doesn't mean the crime will stop.

IMHO the only way to solve the problem is PROSECUTION. Punish the people that are breaking the law.

We were on a zoom call with the Portland office. I believe it was about ending telework. Well pretty quickly it became about personal safety. Many do not want to go back to getting dressed and commuting to work. This was a good excuse to keep dragging thier feet. They were told they would be allowed 4 oz pepper spray. Eventually it was asked if tasers and guns would be allowed. The answer was no.

In other news, yesterday at CPAC Trump said that if he gets reelected he will send the National Guard into all of the cities where crime is rampant until it is under control. He got a standing ovation and CPAC gave him the nod to be our next president. Does anyone see a problem with that? I do. Republicans and PAC's and lobbyists are not the answer.

Trump is not a Republican. Yes, there is an R after his name but he had to join one party or the other to get elected and Trump is all about winning. He is not like other politicians, he keeps his promises for one thing.

History rhymes?

In Malcolm Gladwell book "Outliers" he tells the story of rampant crime in NYC. And of particular significance- murders. And how did the new chief of police turn things around?

They started enforcing laws for spitting on the sidewalk. It is no coincidence that letting petty crime go just increases macro crime. Look to the example of Singapore? Petty crime is not tolerated. Safest streets in the civilized world.

I look forward to the public caning of shop lifters?

Sending the Guard for security is the job of the state's governor, not the president. This highlights one of my main problems with Trump - he is a big government politician along with being fiscally irresponsible.

He did try to cut the budget but he had RINO's in the House the first two years and the dems the last two.

IMHO, this must change. Our friends are still stuck and starving in our local mountains even after our Illustrious Woke Governor Newscum sent in the National Guard.

In one week, we have seen just one National Guard helicopter who did not land, they just flew around, then left. Why? This is a hugely conservative pocket, and unless you are woke, a minority, or gay, our Woke useless Governor doesn't care. Remove this from our Woke Governor, place it in the president's hands, and maybe they will get help?

Better yet, if our mountain cities claimed itself as Ukraine Sovereign status, we'd be flowing $ billions of aid, since our diaper wearing prezzydent receives a huge kickback!

But the Republicans sure gave him a standing ovation, and they have never been the answer to socialism or the left.

Trump and the Republicans agree on those two issues.
