Let's have fun quilting on the farm with Eleanor Burns irresistible BOM! She'll be posting a new free pattern each month on her Quilt in a Day website and Facebook page. Here are the links to get you started.

Here's a cute quilt made entirely of the first block. https://www.facebook.com/quiltinaday/photos/gm.1930204900605841/10155962988233165/?type=3&theater&ifg=1

I have two sweet little piggy blocks made! I ordered the kit for the first pattern and I have to say it was nice to have everything ready to sew and a good copy of the pattern. My printer isn't the most reliable. Here is a picture of what comes with the kit. The fusible webbing and interface is not included. The block with the pale blue background was made from my scraps. In her video, she uses the fusible webbing for the sun but I made mine with the interfacing so my sun points are not as pointy. I like it just fine! :D

Has anybody else started making these? I still have to sew mine down but I'm debating whether to do it by hand with a buttonhole stitch or just stitch them down on the machine.

Maxine - I'm excited to see your and COS's blocks! From the pictures posted on the facebook page, some people are getting really decorative but mine will just be plain with no extra details. I tried using a buttonhole stitch to applique mine but didn't care for it. It looked a little too busy against the pig made of all the different squares so I took it out and just whip stitched them down. Next month I'll zigzag them on the machine and see how I like that. I think a couple more people will make these with us but however many join in, we'll have a good time!

Mo - these will be a great way to jump back on the quilting train! They're so easy to put together and the blocks are so cute that it doesn't take any effort and they're perfect for a baby or child's quilt. I think a whole quilt of little pink pigs would be really sweet for a girl's quilt. If we have horse blocks, a quilt of horses with cowboy hats and boots could be used for a boy.

I've been browsing around hunting farm related patterns that are free online and I'll post the links if I find any. I'm curious to see if all of the BOM patterns will be animals or if there will be something else like corn or a barn and silo. Lots of ideas!

I do enough paper piecing that I have done a thread about making a paper pieced block. Heck, I even remember printing out some of the blocks and others trying it out.
Let me get a little time and I'll try to get it done again.

Oh, so wonderful that you remember it. I think I need to sit down and do something like that again. I still have the cd with the stars on it.

That would be great, Angie! Maybe I'd even give it another try and see if I could make something simple. Here's a little morning glory pattern that I'd love to make a quilt from. I actually did try to make a block a long time ago but it was … sad.

That is phenomenal, Maxine, and I love the double rickrack you put around your sun! Your little piggy has her mud puddle to cool off in and her buddies to keep her company. Perfect! I'm really eager to see what next month's block will be, only another week until we find out.

Here is my Joy the Pig block!!! I did it!!! LOL!!! I can hardly wait till we get the latest block pattern - Maxine, will you print and send it to me again? Pretty please? LOL!!! What do you think will be the next block? A lot of people think it will be a cow. I got to thinking though, there will be 12 different blocks. Are there 12 different farm animals??? Maybe we will get a farm house or barn or both also???

Oh Yes Kim you know I will!!!

I'm thinking a cow is next.. I've been trying to think of 12 Farm Animals but can't quite come up with that many.. let's see,,, Pig, Cow, Horse, Rooster, Hen & Chicks, Ducks, maybe a Donkey or Mule, Dog, Cat, that is 10 blocks.. Can you ladies think of any more that I'm missing?? So maybe a Barn and a House would round it out!!??

Kim I LOVE your Piggie Block.. so cute with the rain & Pearls!! very Cool!!

That's great, Kim!! I love the rain and umbrella! You ladies are so creative I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the blocks. I've wondered if she's going to give us a barn, too.

I think the next one will be either a cow or a horse, one of the bigger animals. I've been trying to think of the different animals, too, and in addition to what you've named there could be a goat and or a sheep, a goose maybe, a bull and a rabbit. As I've browsed for other patterns I ran across a couple of easy rabbit shapes that would work for this type of patchwork animals. The pot holders rabbit looks like it would work better as far as the size.

It would be so cute to make these as a calendar quilt and use a seasonal fabric/theme for each block! I really like the rabbit and I think it would work good with a blue sky, grass and sun like we used for the pig. Since I know I want to make extra blocks to make mine twin size, I'm hanging on to these until I see what all patterns we get in the BOM. Why not keep this one for yourself? Whenever grandkids visit, they can take turns sleeping under Grandma's farm quilt.

Good idea Katie!!!!! I think I might just have to keep this one!!!! When I made my pig block I thought of "April Showers bring May Flowers..." and I may add some tulips or daffodils somewhere on it with that thought in mind. :) I do think a calendar quilt would be the way to go!!!

It's always so fun to get ready for new babies and these will be perfect patterns for a baby's quilt. The next block should be posted Saturday morning so you'll have a couple of choices for the September baby. This BOM lasts through next July so you'll have plenty to choose from for the spring baby.
