We have soft water , so it must be them cleaner tablets the wife puts in the tank.
She said they're septic safe.

But may be not flapper safe.

Jim
I think you found the culprit. Never put stuff in the tank. It only causes problems. I found that out the hard way. Mom put something inside the tank that was supposed to attract iron-- some kind of little magnet. Not only did it not perform that function, it kept slipping under the flapper, broke apart, and I found chunks of it in the fill tube valve when I took it apart to clean it.

There are little cleaner gel thingies that stick to the back or side of the bowl that can be put in the bowl instead.

My gripe for the day is that we have to replace all the hot water lines in the house. That old CPVC was already getting brittle with age & the winter storm killed it. Split the pipes down the middle along the whole length everywhere. Every bathroom was leaking. Friend patched a bit of it thinking it was just the kitchen sink, but no. Friend can't come back to help until Thursday but he's going to replace ALL of the lines- hot and cold. It's not going to be cheap.

Additionally, I found out that my pressure tank for my jet pump is not even remotely hooked up properly. No pressure relief valve, no spigot, and the pump is plumbed in such a way that it actually bypasses the tank. So I'm going to need to do major plumbing revisions in there. It's going to be harder to do since the repair guy cut out (and did not replace) the shutoff valve from the cistern that I used when doing maintenance on the pump. He also put the inlet line above the pump (after I had moved it below). When it's above, it lets air build up and get in to the water supply & causes problems. He's actually a very nice guy, but I don't think he's all that knowledgeable. Unfortunately, he is the ONLY well service guy in the area who will come out to my place.

1) Cataract surgery Dec 2018, in one eye.

2) A few days later I needed to get my driver’s license renewed. I flunked the eye test because I hadn’t adjusted to my “new” eye. Was given a form for my VA eye doctor to fill out. I gave it to my doctor a few days later at a follow-up appointment. I never saw what was written on the form. Anyway, they faxed it in and my new license was issued.

3) Nov 2020, surgery on my other eye. I now have 20-20 vision and will never have cataracts again.

4) 20jan21 – I get a letter from the DMV saying my license had been suspended even though it didn’t expire until 2024. It was precipitated by something my VA eye doctor wrote on the form in 2018. In a phone call those folks said I needed to jump through hoops X, Y & Z, get another eye test and have my doctor fill out yet another form.

5) So, I went to the VA in the big city, stayed overnight in a hotel, had my eye appointment. The doc filled out the form. I waited and watched them fax it. I kept the original form.

6) Last week I get another letter saying my license was still suspended. My doctor wrote 20/20 in the little boxes for without Rx (meaning without glasses). She also clearly checked another box that said “No glasses needed”. Yet she overlooked the little box that said “with Rx” – what my vision with glasses would be. It is imperative this box must be filled out… even though I DON’T need glasses.

7) I spent an entire day on the phone and finally got my VA doctor to call me at home. She told me to write 20/20 in the little box. At least I didn’t have to drive to the big city, stay overnight in a hotel so she could write 20/20 in the little box.

8) Yesterday I drove to the big town to fax the form to the DMV from an office supply store. While still in the parking lot I read over the form once again. I noticed that under the fax number was written “Must be faxed from doctor’s office”. Great!

9) I drove across town to the local VA eye clinic (not where I had surgery). They were well aware of this bit of idiocy on the form from the DMV and were happy to help. I spent 2 hours waiting while they tried to fax the form repeatedly. It seems the fax machine at the DMV was broken.

10) I have until 18mar to stop at the local VA again and again until the fax machine at the DMV works and those idiots get their precious little form that says I don't need glasses to drive... repeatedly. It seems they need glasses or a class in english comprehension.

Peanut, that is an excellent (and painful) example of a decadent bureaucracy in 'action'.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, Peanut. The local VA here sucks. My father couldn't get any help with anything from there- they just dismissed him. I had two elderly friends I used to take there & I saw how they got the run around. They would have appointments for bloodwork early in the morning & have to sit for hours waiting.

They don't have to do that anymore. They can now be treated by ny doctor they want.

Ah, aren't some people taught to lie at a young age? I've seen too much of that in my life.

Hadn't thought about lying. I thought they either are afraid to answer because of ? or didn't want to admit they didn't know the answer or were just muddled thinkers?

When I was teaching and the end of the school came, and teachers were leaving for greener pastures, I heard so many made up stories about why they were leaving. I was just amazed at how easy it was for people to make up something that was more agreeable or less offensive than the truth. I was not taught to make up something that was less offensive than to tell the truth. Perhaps it would have been better and less offensive, but I have always spoken the truth and I have also offended people by it. It is something that I have prayed about many times, with no resolution.

Yes, but putting the tools back requires the use of memory... Kids today don't exercise it much so it doesn't work when they need it. ;)

My eldest granddaughter has a near photographic memory (like her grandfather). @ThePrincess takes advantage of that ability and will ask "I can't find my pink glass".

"In the library first book shelf on the right about chest high".

But that does not mean the granddaughter puts the legos back.

Because grandkids are meant to be spoiled, not disciplined? Pay back for what our children did to us parents?
My grandparents never got that memo. LOL. My grandma was a mean lady. She didn't think children should play. Didn't want us climbing trees, having fun, or laughing. She was raised by strict parents & was strict. She hated noise (I found out later it was bc of migraines). She was actually a loving woman, but she didn't understand that not all kids were prim & proper like she was raised to be. Had some elderly friends who were pseudo grandparents that made up for it. No presents or anything, but they sure loved to give us food and ice cream & let us climb their trees & run around their yard.

Speaking of grandparents, my friend is still having problems with his grandfather stalking him. The grandfather is after him to wash his laundry for him. He's still staying in hotels bc he found himself another young hooker that is spending all his $ & he hasn't finished getting his house renovated. Since the hotel is in the same town as the casino, he's been watching the employee parking lot like a hawk & waiting until he sees my friend's truck. He follows him and tries to catch him when he's getting out to go inside. If he doesn't see him before he gets inside, he parks or idles next to his truck and just waits for him-- for hours-- and then harasses him when he comes out. He'll holler at him "You need to come get my clothes to do my laundry!" or "You need to (fill in blank w/ whatever task he wants him to do for him)". Doesn't even ask. Just demands. Friend is tempted to call in and not go into work bc he dreads the stalking. I told him to contact security, give a description of the vehicle, tell tribal police he's driving w/o a license and stalking him, and ask them to ban him from the area. The local cops might not do anything about the old man, but tribal police might.

A Covid relief bill backed by Democrats could trigger billions of dollars in cuts to Medicare and other federal programs, like ones that support unemployed workers and student-loan borrowers, if it's ultimately passed.

The funding cuts would take effect in 2022 and last for several years.

Trying to figure out about a toilet problem that developed yesterday. After I flushed it, it kept running. I took the lid off the tank and could not make it stop without using a piece of wood wedged in there to stop it. I can see that the parts are corroded. I could replace the parts, but I cannot shut the water to the tank off with the turn off valve. It must be pretty corroded as well, and I have no memory of ever needing to turn it off in 30+ years of owning this house. The lid to the tank is not the correct one, so if I am going to do some work, I should replace the toilet so I can have the correct lid on the tank. I have never liked the tile in this powder room and whoever did it, never completed it, so while I am at it, I should replace the tile. If I am going to replace the tile, I should replace the base boards because whoever installed them (not me) never completed it, only partial. There are sections of the wall that never had baseboards. If I am going to do this, I might replace the sink, as it has never been attractive. And there is wood paneling halfway up the wall that was never completed under the sink. I am thinking it is time for a sink with a cabinet, but the powder room is the former entrance to the basement, and narrow. It would take a very small cabinet and sink. Not impossible, but a challenge. Ever heard the children's story, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie..."?
I have removed and reinstalled a toilet myself previously. That is something that I can do. It is the water turn off valve that I cannot move. I do not want to force it, break it, and then have a flood or to be forced into turning off all of the water to the house until I can get a plumber here. I have my full bathroom, so I can use that toilet until I get the rest of this together. New toilet, new tile, new baseboards, and...

A $35 fix or a $3000 contractor bill.

You could shut off the water to the house replace the fill valve assembly and ignore for a few more years.

Alternatively...

Thank you! That is a great idea!
I would do as much of this work as possible: remove the toilet and replace it (in proper sequence), remove the ugly tile and replace it, remove the baseboards and replace them. The toilet has bothered me for years, due to having an ill fitted tank lid. I have recently been looking at new toilets, before this developed.
