I believe everyone has had a passing thought about doing something that they know better. Whether you act on it or not, is what makes the difference.

Indeed. The difference is that a psychopath could decide to act on that if they decided to, while most normal people even if they had the thought, could not actually go through with it unless they where on drugs, having a mental breakdown, etc.

Its an actual physical brain difference, a smaller amygdala than normal.

What is interesting as well, is that a difference most police, firefighters, and special forces have. There is a theory that the same genetic trait creates psychopaths and 'hero's' and the difference comes from their life experiences. The classic idea of a 'superpower' that can be used for good or evil.

Part of the theory too is its essentially a developmental disorder, that all kids start out as psychopaths but most develop empathy by age 5 as their brain develops, while in some people, that part of their brain doesn't advance or does so slower.

About the "all kids start out as psychopaths".....
I had some teaching staff that would agree with you
Ha Ha
I have stories. Some children's behavior is so off that you can predict who will not always make good choices in their lives. Parents are often in denial, and don't say that about my child, just describing their behavior. In my life I wouldn't have thought that I would know more than 20 men who went to prison. I live a clean and quiet life. It is not like I belong to the drug and wild life scene. Most that I know are former students, but a couple are former colleagues and two nephews. Most are students from when I taught in the inner city, but not all are. Some lived in wealthier areas.

Anyone else follow Shawn James and his cabin and property build in Canada? I have not seen every one of his videos, because they are usually around 30 minutes long and he is a talker. Watching his cabin, sauna, outdoor kitchen and other builds is interesting.

Shawn developed this property now for a few years, but began to be seriously harassed by a neighbor. This first video tells a little about it, but the next video goes into more depth about it.

Why? Why do people feel the need to give others a hard time? And in this situation, the neighbors had to work at it and involve other neighbors. I read that Shawn is actually a wealthy man, worth more than a million, which in these days is easier to accomplish and some here likely are worth that just due to real estate and property holdings.

Oh my gosh, I just realized if I can't figure out who we are talking about maybe it's me.
Are we talking about someone or are we giving examples of people whose behavior affects our lives or others whose lives have been affected by sociopathic people? No one has been named. In the second video I shared today, no one has been named, but their crazy behavior of parking a van close to his property with speakers on blast for hours on end to annoy him? Sociopathic!

@Aerindel mentioned psychopath, which is different than sociopath.
Psychopaths are more cold-hearted and calculating while sociopaths are more hot-headed and don't consider how their behavior will affect others. Then there are narcissistic tendencies too which I've had experience with this year and didn't realize it. Narcissists minimize others' pain, making it seem like the victim is acting weak or acting like their victims are making a big deal out of nothing or saying it was just a joke. They spread false information about their victims to get more support.

New update about the sociopath who lives next door to one of my clients and has 3 current restraining orders against her by neighbors due to her harassment. She is selling her home and moving in two weeks! I wonder if there will be a party? Clients will now be able to turn the lights on in their yard and be out there in the evening without being harassed.

She has always been friendly with one man, and he asked her where she was moving. "I'd prefer not say. I know you are all going to throw a party when I am gone."

Then why act like you do? Mental illness is why, a B level, probably narcissism. This is why she is not institutionalized.

Weedy, I am torn a bit. Having worked with "developmentally / intellectually" disabled people for years I think society has failed them a bit. Years back there were institutions. While some of them were terrible there we others that did a decent job. One day in our state it was determined that the cost was too high and that they should close down those facilities. All those institutionalized people were turned free in society.

Many never learned how to care for themselves. Many landed in jails, the streets, and far worse places being exploited. Many more simply ended up dead. Mental illness is exactly that. Its an illness. Do we refuse or blame a cancer patient service due to behavior? This is not directed at you Weedy as I understand your point all I am saying is that if she is mentally ill the laws wont help them and society often forgets them unless there is a "problem". Veterans are a prime example. PTSD was not understood and if it was it was not addressed as it should be. Look at how many we have lost as a result.

I remember when all the institutions were closed and those people were set free. We did not have homelessness in America, really, until that time.

Our Veterans have been majorly failed. It is really sad to know what has happened to them and how they have been treated, or mistreated by the government agencies that should be there for them.

This woman, is nothing like a person who was set free from an institution. You used to be able to read her name on the page for either Colorado Republicans or Denver Republicans. I don't remember which one now. She was involved with financials. I don't know how long she has been gone from that position. I can tell you that from my face to face conversation with her that she is in her late 50's. Her home is in an area where similar homes are going for around $750,000. She seems to have done well for herself, but maybe part of her selling her home comes from now being unemployed and not being able to make mortgage payments. I don't know. I stay as far away from her as I can. I park my car in their garage so that she doesn't know I am there. She cornered me the one time and then lied to my clients about what I had said. She is the kind of person I stay as far away from as possible. I just don't deal well with this kind of person. It is just not in me.

Yep.

Thanks Regan.

Not sure it was Regans fault here but may have to go back to see. The idiot in charge of the state back then which was the father of the idiot we currently have in office was / is the reason where we are currently. Shameful in any fashion.

From my memory, Reagan was president at the time.

Yeah just wasn't sure if he played an active part. Some show up but do nothing as you know.
I have little interest in politics and politicians. This happened around 38 years ago when my daughter was an infant and I just remember that it happened when he was president.

I mostly liked Regan; Damn. It's been a long time. Problem is, we need to vote out these people in office if its even possible anymore.

I don't like politicians in general. I am an equal opportunity dis-liker of every single one of them. I don't care what team they play on or for. Election years are the worst, imho. 24/7 of lies and come-ons. I could just go put a pillow over my head to drown out all the noise and stay there until the election is over.

Willowbrook

I can't imagine anyone standing in the way of that surname once the story came out.

Ben

Neb you are correct on Willowbrook. One of many terrible places within that system back then.

The problem is that there are some that should not be free to wander around as they are a danger to themselves and others. That is not blaming them for the situation they find themselves in but much like children, and many function at the level of a child, they also need protection. Unfortunately the bureaucrats have zero idea how to handle things as usual. At one point they threw massive amounts of money into a failed and antiquated system. Once people saw the expense of these programs there was outcry to scale costs back and as most things go it is a self-perpetuating situation where it fails to provide the services required in an efficient and cost effective method.

Yup!

Cracking that nut is above my pay grade.

Last December, I tried to order CPAP supplies while my coverage was at 100%.

Sleep Therapy said I would need a new prescription.
I call my primary care physician and schedule an appointment to get a new prescription even though I got one for a new machine in 2019.
Next available appointment is end of January.

At appointment, doctor says I need a new sleep study since my last one was over 15 years ago.
She refers me to a sleep specialist. Their next available appointment was mid-April.

I see the sleep specialist mid-April and he refers me for an in home sleep study.

Sleep therapy clinic calls me three weeks later and schedules my study for mid-May.
I go in, pick up the device and the training to use it and settle in for the worst night of sleep in 15 years (can't use my CPAP so they can get true data).
I return the device the next morning and promptly go home for a 4 hour nap.

Today I finally get the report.
Surprise, surprise, surprise. Total or partial airway obstruction 56.7 times per hour with an oxygen level high of 79%.

It only took 6 months for my doctors to realize that I actually DO need the item they prescribed for me.

Sometimes I hate this countries medical system...

Off topic but my son was majoring in political science when he was in college. Then he decided he was too honest to be a politician and changed his major to finance. 🤣
He does some small time politics in his home town now as a volunteer. He’s successful in his financial career.

I have been like this for many years, decades. As I said before, I don't care what team someone plays for, I don't believe there is an honest one in the crowd. I believe that what it takes to be a politician is to be a smooth talker and to be able to speak out of both sides of your mouth.

Good that your son made this realization at a young age.
