White wheat berries went up to $2 a lb.
Wow, wheat used to be so cheap. I don't even remember how inexpensive it was. It is one of the many reasons that it was a good food storage item.

I wonder if there are any wheat farmers in your area that you could potentially get some wheat from? I also wonder if you might have a few acres that some local farmer could plant and harvest some wheat from. One of my farmer cousins has a local farmer plow, plant and harvest for him, for a portion of the crop.

What is quarantine fencing? I've never heard of it and I have done my share of fence work on farms and ranches.
I imagine it's for any instance where you need to separate a critter from your other critters due to the possibility of disease, etc. We had to do it a few times when I was a kid. We called it the sick pen. My pops would say, "We gotta move that sow to the sick pen today. Let's go, get moving!!!"😁

Thank you! This makes sense!

I put in some concrete for a level pad for the new water heater.

I will let it setup for a day or 2. It isn't intended to be special beyond being level.

The components I need have been showing slowly. The shipment I received today was damaged.

It had a hole large enough for push to fit 3/4 tees to fall out of. I immediately fed back to Amazon about it. But there is some confusion that remains. The order status on Amazon says it is still in transit! Furthermore the copper crimp rings that are part of this order where delivered yesterday. My best guess is the order was shipped in 3 packages and the Tees are still in transit. I will have to wait until Monday to find out. The four push to fit Tees were almost $90 total so I will be making a stink if they don't show.

Ben
All is well with the order.

The (4) push to fit PEX 3/4 tees arrived today.

There are still some odds and ends but I should be on my way now.

Next step will be a detailed check list detailing the work needed to get the job done.

Today I will be fiddling in the greenhouse transplanting and starting seedlings dor this spring.

We're expecting rain and some snow tomorrow. I'll probably stick close to home. Did some errands this morning with husband in the bigger town, and stopped in to IHOP for lunch. It wasn't as good as it used to be. Husband commented that I make a better omelet. I think they use the liquid egg goop for scrambled eggs and omelets. Did some shopping at the amish discount store in our town. White wheat berries went up to $2 a lb.
Powdered. You have to ask for shell eggs when you order scrambled or an omlet.

They have 2 other horses, so the fencing is to keep them in different pastures till the Vet has been there. Star was a rescue from a hoarding situation a week or so ago, so we want to be sure.

Finally got the right part to fix the water heater leak. Then spent 3 hours moving out somebof the crap outside to dry in the sun. A couple tools already had some rust forming. Got to get that took care of tonight. Got 2 fans blowing to try and dry out the basement. Still got more stuff to get off the storage rack and dried. But it gonna rain all day tomorrow so I don't want to get more stuff out to have bring back in tonight.
What a mess

Vinegar will remove light rust. Let soak for a day or more.

Put a new battery in the tractor. Hauled and stacked some more wood. Six dozen eggs in the freezer. Put 8 lbs of bacon in the smoker.

Went to store in the big city the other day. They had 30 % off sugar cured slab bacon that no one wanted. I rooted through and found 15 lbs that were 80+ % meat to fat ratio. Bacon runs on average $10 a lb here, normally. Lack of smoke was the problem with the not yet bacon.

☝️That's a good suggestion. A spray and wipe with PB Blaster can remove light rust too.
Thats what I did today. Spray some directly on the tools, then soak a rag and rub it down. Got a good part of it off. Got more to work on. Also found a bunch of auger bit I had bought and forgot about. A couple of brace's also. 2 or 3 of the bits are in bad shape, not sure sharpening them will help. The others will be fine after a little work. The braces just need to be torn apart, cleaned, and lubed. Betting they'll work just fine.
Got probably 3/4 of the stuff out and most of it dried. But I was running out of time and had to put everything back inside tonight since we are supposed to get rain overnight and tomorrow.

Star needs a spa day/week. Still muddy, and clumps of dirt, but it's the cold part of winter so no horse washing yet, just brushing. I saw pictures of where she was hoarded, I will have nightmares.

She isn't there anymore

Don't look at the dead cow in the mud

To here, now :)

All the alive cows have been placed on a new farm, the donkeys and horses are all at the rescue getting the care they need.

That top photo breaks my heart; the second one uplifts it. How anyone could let that happen to God’s noblest creations is beyond my comprehension.

The owner of the barn where I kept my horse, used to always bring animals back like that. We had one thoroughbred that was so gaunt, malnourished and neglected. Poor thing didn’t even have a name. When he went to his forever home, he was fat and sassy.

He brought a sheep back one time. Hadn’t been sheared in years. She was so muddy and matted that her backside was so raw from being unclean. Took me two days to shear her. Started with half the wool hanging over eyes--afraid the bright light would hurt her eyes. Whenever Dolly saw my truck coming through the gate, she would run to the fence and bleat her little heart out.

Star will have a special bond with Lori because of her kindness and love.

Dademoss, I'm so glad Star was rescued and is no longer in such horrible conditions. That is awful! She looks happier at your place. Beautiful horse!

Reading this I have one question. If they are charging for something you brought them to put in your car how do you know they are actually putting your oil in your car?
Just a thought, but worth considering. Because once it is in the engine it is difficult to prove it is the better stuff.
They put the mostly empty container back in my truck after using it. I use Mobil 1 high mileage oil & they use Syntec oil or something. The oil I bought was about $40 so even if they just dumped it out (which they had no reason to do) they still used my oil.
Pain is gone and it was much lower than any organs. I think I just pulled a muscle or something from lifting stuff

Cleaning and cooking today. We have visitors coming tomorrow, if the weather is ok. We have a winter weather warning but it looks like just rain coming
When my appendix was acting up it was hurting in my hip/pelvis. Turns out my appendix was "in the wrong place" and they had to search for it once they cut me open. They put the cut where a bikini line would be- about 6" long. I'm glad they didn't have to cut wider. I suppose now they have better tests to determine if its appendix or not. Hopefully its just something pulled that will heal with time and rest.

I meant to go over to my friend's house today but it was raining and I felt like garbage. I ended up sleeping in. Cats woke me up to take my meds (both morning and afternoon ones). Cooked for Mom, watched Tournament of Champions, & put together a new litterbox for the kitties. Only one cat used it thus far and I had to take the top off and pick her up bc she refused to get out of it.

Hoping to be more productive tomorrow.

Today the wife has had a good day, she got up took a shower and made breakfast (waffles) before her lights went out and needed to be escorted back to her chair... This was a really big deal, we have been looking for a batter recipe that can store in the fridge for several days, she found one, and we were trying it out...

The waffle iron is an old one and when we used it some brownish fluid leaked out around the feet (yuck). The Irons were clean but there must be something between the irons and the housing. The plates are non-removable, but I see phillips-heads and I am thinking "I'll fix it, @#$ %^&* ()" (it's a 6 word saying I have used since I was in diapers, much to the chagrin of my strong baptist grandmother). Anyway, has anyone taken apart one of these old waffle makers with reasonable success?

Need to shift gears and get ready for church meeting...

We have white fluffy stuff falling. I think I will kick back and maybe catch a show, then the game this afternoon, and during half time experiment making a Philly Fold. then enjoy a cigar.
