Skynard is my favorite band. Simple man is my favorite song by them. Told my wife I wanted it played at my funeral

I was a ping pong all day today 🤪. This morning Hubby forgot his phone. I had to get some house cleaning done then took it to him. Also got a form taken care of since I was at work. Then went to an estate sale. It was almost overwhelming. Essentially 3 stories of mostly books! Of all those books, I bet about 70% were quilting or cookbooks 😳. The really overwhelming part was there was no rhyme or reason. Looking through quilt books then Daniel Steel or religious. All books were 25 cents. I came home with 34😖. I figure if I don’t want them, I will just donate them.
Came home got house cleaned up for walk through by property mgt. Then had to run to the bank and one other errand. Then came back home again. Difficult to get things done that way.

I won't lie, yesterday & today I was depressed. I'm not normally depressed but I get that way every 5 to 7 years. I don't normally know why, but this time I do. Oh well, it's nothing that I can change. So I told my wife that todays a beer day & that's my solution. I drink beer all day & tomorrow I feel better about life in general. And no, I don't have hangovers, nor do I drink that much. I drink to stay mellow all day. I'm feeling less depressed now & have shifted to drinking tea. Tomorrow will be a better day.
This song seems suiting -

Busy unpacking and dealing with life. Just trying to make everything fit in the new place or get rid of it if we don't need it. The girls have been bugging me to got crawdad hunting since they found out they live in our front yard! Frogs too.

As with every move we are dealing with the change of scenery and nosy neighbors. The ones that live behind us like to make noise in the morning while the ones across the street spy on us when we do yard work! I have taken pictures of them to prove they are watching us!

Here are our neighbors in the back.

I'm so happy for you guys! I love the neighbors too!!! Cows that look that good in April were well cared for over winter. Means the owner is a thinking man. Might be a good neighbor to know.

Anyway I'm sure you folks will be happy there!

It is actually 2 separate pastures and 2 separate herds. The one across the road is a bunch of heifers with calves. Each has a calf and an udder full of milk. The herd behind us is larger and has a few calves but it looks like there are a few steer mixed in. They are fun to watch. That herd is also people shy. They will walk away from the fence if they see us. The smaller one across the road is more social and will come if we talk to them but keep a bit of distance from the fence since they don't know us. They also have a few horse pasture mates.

Up the road is a house that has 2 ponies and a horse in their front yard. They are just mowing the front lawn. Fun to watch. While near the mailboxes there is a family with miniature donkeys and ponies in their yard.

If this rental had more of a yard I'd get a goat or 2 but we don't have much room. It is only temporary until we can find a place with some land.

Sorry ... I don't like to see any animal getting killed, by any means.

Yeah, I am a carnivore, but I can't stand to watch an animal die. I'd probably starve if I had to ... lol
this is probably why all the meat processors can't find enough people to work there....
I don't like seeing animals suffer. The kill thing is over pretty fast for them once they get there, shot in the back of the head
This is why we sell meat animals. I have control over how they get treated while alive and they have good lives here as a livestock, not like being in some factory farm feed lot
Everything dies, us to eventually
I explain this to a lot of people at the market who say " oh they are so cute, how can you eat them?" ( we have photos of the animals hanging up), so unless you are a vegan, you have to accept that animals die to feed you...sorry

There is a religious group ( Jains) in India that is 100% vegan and they try to not kill ANYTHING even bugs. I used to know a family in Orlando. They don't even eat root vegetables becauses something in the ground might die when it's pulled up. Not practical LOL but I get the thought ( insects die when above ground stuff is grown and harvested also)

We got a lot done yesterday, finally planted the onions , plus got the garden ready to plant tomotoes ( put up panels for them to grow on) , and watered everything. It's been really dry here the past week or so
I made a blackforest cake for husband's and son's birthday, but still have to finish it. Plus a new lasagna recipe, hope it's good
Took dog for a hike too. Now house still needs to be cleaned.

We visited an old Army Fort and cemetery outside Oklahoma City and almost half of the graves were children.
Very depressing.
There was a separate area for WW2 POWs.
German and Italian.
It was originally planned to hold Japanese POWs but they captured so many solders in Africa they changed the plan.
That must have been a shock to be captured in Africa and then sent to the middle of nowhere Oklahoma.
My g grandfather's brother lost several children in the late 1800's due to disease. He and his wife had 15 children and lost 5 of them. I don't remember the disease. Diptheria, maybe?

Came back to find the Oregon sis and her husband going thru mom's doll collection and boxing them and arguing with Florida sis. So I changed that mood quickly...said ok...you pick one, she picks one, I pick one, etc etc....That Oregon sis is such a money grubber, it's made me sick to watch. Doubt that she'll ever be down here again, and that's ok.
Ugh! May you never have to see the likes of her ever again!

I got a package in the mail this week from my 89 year old aunt in South Dakota. It is a framed aerial view of one of my uncles ranch, taken around 1989. She had been his care giver for a few years after he sold his ranch and moved to town. She was also the person who had to help him clear stuff out. One time they asked me if I wanted the china that he had gotten in Japan when he was in the Navy. I wasn't interested at the time, but kind of wish I had it now. But I had written on the back of the picture that I wanted it. I wrote that more than a decade ago. He wasn't well liked, so I expected that no one else would want it.

Aunt is largely deaf and blind and moved into assisted living in March at the suggestion of her children. It took her a while to accept this idea.

I also received a letter with some photos in the envelope of my mother and uncles from her, written by one of her daughters. I called her son, the friendliest of the bunch and visited with him for a few hours and we chewed the fat about many things in the family. Like Grandma, she wants anything with any family information on it to be destroyed. She was angry with me about my doing family history. She has always had a bit of a temper. She and the last surviving uncle have had an ongoing battle for decades, but it is all her doing. Their children went to small town school together and never knew each other, other than the fact that they were cousins. She was upset when her husband gave uncles wife a ride home one time. I suppose when you have a cheating husband, you think the worst in a situation like this.

We went to dinner with guy and his wife.
I had never met his wife and I had not seen him since 1968 except for 1 short visit years ago.
It was nice to spend time with a guy I grew up with.
My cousin wants to go to a big casino today.
Gambling bores me to death but we'll probably go and spend the 10 bucks the casino give all new people then have dinner.
Oklahoma is an interesting place to visit but I don't think I could live here. Too humid.
The food is cheaper here than at home.
Breakfast is usually around $9 and dinner around $12.
Everywhere we go you can get biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, and my wife's favorite fried catfish and hushpuppies.
We went to an Italian restaurant and they had chicken fried steak.

I got up and went to work to check on everything this morning. Been there a couple of hours before I noticed I was wearing 2 different boots. I guess that’s what happens when you leave before daylight in the morning. 🤣

My grandma was often caught wearing two different shoes!😉😃

Last of the family just left. Last to leave was oldest daughter and Florida sis, both of those are great to be with. The grouchy Oregon sis missed a flight and is now stuck in San Francisco till tomorrow's flight to Oregon. Ha. Oh well for her. Going to relax for awhile, and then start picking some things up...all the bedding needs to be washed in three bedrooms, buffet tables put away....funeral service stuff all over...I'll spread it out over the week, for sure. Oldest daughter from Washington state will be back again at the end of May for a more normal visit.

I do that all the time, have like 3 pairs on the porch, 2 leak ( holes) 1 new one , they all look very similar

Preparing for a trip next Friday. I stress before trips.

We are going to Baltimore to be there when our son in law receives his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University.

I may be absent from posting for a few days in there. Wish me well .... travel is difficult these days.
