Got back home to see none of the seedlings perished. They got a big drink before leaving for cabin and the grow lights are on a timer. Tomatoes and peppers look great. They are in the dining room. The cabbage and broccoli seedlings spent the vacation in the greenhouse (looks nothing like @hashbrown ‘s mom’s). They survived.

Today was a red-letter day. I got to harvest my first indoor cucumbers, they tasted good.

I decided to end my store-bought tomato experiment, they were just way too leggy for my space. I got some Siam Tomato seeds, they are a much more compact plant and I have gotten high yields from them in the past. I plan to start 3 plants, and then try to clone them into 9, that will give me a good crop and I will have some seeds in reserve... In the past I have been able to grow 3 generations before the good qualities were lost completely.

This week has been so busy I had to improvise to transplant a bunch of plants, most are just in larger pots, some moved outdoors. I just can't keep up.

This past weekend, I forgot to uppot the lettuce so today after work, I went ahead and planted it outside. Temps have been pretty mild. We’ll see how it does. I haven’t gotten my corn planted yet. It’s been a crazy day and I’m whooped.

Go ahead, give her a little smack upside the head.
Just a little tap.

My canning tomatoes are now over a foot high, I have re-potted them but experience has taught me that it is not a safe bet to plant them outside before Memorial Day...

My critter problem is now whittled down to 1 remaining offender, he does not do as much damage as the pack he was running with, but he needs to be addressed at the first opportunity. I have seen him and he appears to be gun shy at this point....

We are expecting rain, the garden could use it. All of my growing space is now fully occupied except the areas for the tomatoes and the squash. I may move some squash outdoors this weekend.

Well work is calling... Have a great week.

husband had to help in the garden yesterday, usually I do most of that but I injured my back so I couldn't do it. We planted stuff I had in pots yesterday, he had to do the digging, I sat on the wet dirt and planted. My pants are super dirty but it got done. Planted lots of cabbages, red and green, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, I put out beet seeds too oh and some kohlrabi. I have a bunch left. NOticed I forgot to buy peas and pepper seeds. Will need to do that soon.

Well, Lots of Strong Winds throughout the evening and night but All Survived :

Better old than dead, HEHEHEHEHE,,, sometime wonder though when the tired sets and achy sets in.

Pushin the old age clock and watching it rain so much is a problem, gonna have to go to the gym in the shop and start back to daily workouts till we get some good dry ground days.
May be able to cut some more grass in the 1 dry day we have coming.

I have 2 beds that are now 4 years old. I filled mine 12" deep with wood out of a 24" bed. I'm adding anywhere from 2-4" of compost back in to top them off. Some I'm sure is settling, but I've dug into a couple of my 10 beds and finding evidence of rot in the wood. I'm guessing the larger wood will last maybe 10 years before its all gone. Wood type will play a part as well. Pine and popular will rot quick. But maple and oak would last longer.
My other beds are showing similar need for filling each spring

Ditto what @Bacpacker wrote.

The hugelkultures I put in 8-9 years ago used fresh cut logs. The newest bed uses logs that have been stacked that long with no cover. I hope they are ideal since the rotted logs act like a sponge and hold moisture.

The beds on The Ridge are all hugelkultures. That were I grow garlic and onions. They don't required protection from critters for the most part. The beds do not have any irrigation. Between our average rainfall and the hugelkultures the root crops do fine. I even get some volunteer spuds from years past.

I'm surprised LadyL hasn't commented yet. Must be sleeping in today.🤣
I’ve barely been able to keep up this week. It’s taken me multiple tries to make it through a thread. By evening I’m spent. Hoping to sleep well tonight and get some things caught up this weekend.

First I'll remind you guys that I garden just for fun, so don't be to hard on me. Anyway in the past I've bought plants at Home Depo, Walmart or Lowes and paid about 6 bucks a plant. Last year soured me on paying that much because everything I bought burned up. This year I saw that HEB had plants for $1.95 (much smaller) so I bought about 20 of them. Our summers are long so I figured that they had time to mature. Well shock, those suckers are now bigger than I could have imagined after just a few weeks. And most of them (if not all) have buds & flowers. Only 1 plant "failed" & that's because I think I put fertilizer too close to it. I did plant heavy in tomatoes figuring that my SF loves them & I'll eat them. But if they each produce just 3 tomatoes, I'm going to have a lot extra.
