I wanted to see the Dead so damn bad. but the stars neverr lined up for me

I tended bar in Yazoo Ms. Mr B B king played Friday and Saturday night. During one of his breaks It was just me and Mr King sitting on top of a rickety old Picnic table behind the bar, We smoked a joint and talked about Woman, Music for 1/2 an hour. He was a super nice guy
Then you probably got to meet his guitar, Lucille, as well.

You're not deprived if you've heard Mark O'Connor! Incredible musician!!! I always lump him with Bela Fleck. Both transcend the instrument they play or the genre they are playing at the time.
Bela Fleck was here a weekend we were out of state.

I think I spent most of my teen life going to concerts. I grew up outside of San Francisco, and we had the coliseum in Oakland, Winterland in San Francisco, and the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. All good venues. Heart, Led Zeppelin, Eddie Money, Sammy Hagar (twice), Joni Mitchell, Carol King. As an adult we saw Ziggy Marley, Ted Nugent (many times), OAR, Scorpions, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Cheryl Crow, Frankie Valli, Lynnrd Skynnrd, Peter Frampton, the Eagles, too many to list. I like concerts. Love music. Never did get to see Bad Company, and wished I did.

You wouldn't have missed much at Dead concert , if you made it through the parking lot you wouldn't have remembered them anyhow

@Pearl i went to …what was it called… the Meadowlands…in NJ to see Jerry Garcia. 🤣 🤣
Saw my boss there too. That was hilarious looking back on that because I had no clue he was a dead head. He walked past me staring at me with a goofy “gee I bet you’re surprised to see me here” look on his face. We kept that little secret between us.

Like Amish just shared, I didn't miss many concerts from 1977 until 1982, Been to may more over the years since then. Hard to pick the most memorable or best. First show and probably the loudest was Ted Nugent Cat Scratch Fever show. I've seen AC/DC several times, Lynard SKynard, Charlie Daniels, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Nazareth, Boston, Eagles, Marshall Tucker, Outlaws, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Bob Seager, Scorpions, Heart, Foreigner, Jethro Tull, Blackberry Smoke. Several of these multiple times. I'm sure I missed some too.
The one band I regret never seeing was Bad Company, Another was Styx and Kansas.
One on my list to see is the Allman Betts Band, several sons from the original Allman Brothers.

I forgot to add, just heard today on my way home Paul McCartney is going to be in Knoxville on May 31st. Tickets will start at $200. I'd love to see him, but not paying that for it.

'77, remembered. I heard the country group "Alabama" at a county fair just before their first hit made it on radio. Of course.. they were just some guys playing at a fair! They sounded pretty good, was more interested in the girl I was with... (saw her at a funeral a few years ago lol).

I've only been to one large concert, it just happened to align with my vacation. Slept in an old van and got totally roasted in the CA sun.

We lived about 2 hrs from Glenn Helen and saw many concerts there. It's a good outdoor So Cal venue.👍

I saw Billie Joe - the lead singer for Green day once at a small party I went to in San Francisco in the mid 1990s.
He was drunk but got up and sang, there were probably only 20 or so people there. Definitely the most memorable, impromptu!
Otherwise, local bands in Sacramento - probably the most fun. Only went to one large concert my whole life - went and saw the Cure in the early 90s when they came to Sacramento.
You've got Sacramento connections, and you're a Gen Xer...did you ever see Tesla? I did, in 1989, when hair metal was the in thing. It was a double bill with Great White. Tesla was, and still is, a terrific live show.

1989 in open air , hillside , Wisconsin.

Sha Na Na played an hour and half before Chuck Berry.
Bowser was awesome.

Jim
I had a student come to school one day and say, "Call me Bowser." I humored him for a little bit that day. The next day he came to school and said, "Call me ____" I don't remember what it was and something about it was over the top for me, so I called him by his given name. He was 5 years old. He called his mother by her first name. That was the first time I had ever heard a child do that, call their parent by their given name.

The one band I regret never seeing was Bad Company

They were absolutely fantastic in concert, I gained a whole new outlook on them.

Most memorable is hard to say. I saw Chris LeDoux twice, and for a country show he really blew the roof off the place. Most of what makes a concert memorable to me is the company of the people I'm with.

Back in '91 I had 8th row center seats to Alan Jackson at the Iowa State Fair. I was 18 years old. Of course Alan Jackson doesn't put on a really an exciting show with lots of energy, but he's still very good. There was an open space about ten feet wide right behind our row. In the middle of one of the slow songs, a mid 30s ish, kind of rough looking woman grabbed me from behind and told me I was going to dance with her. Well, ok. I could tell by looking at her that I didn't have much choice in the matter. She was ummm, very friendly and kept telling me she had just gotten back from Desert Storm. Apparently she was looking to celebrate getting home, but I wasn't interested.

Blue Oyster Cult was a fantastic concert, I saw them before they banned the laser light show with the rotating mirror balls suspended above. It was , well, um, very psychedelic.................... :)

I have seen John Denver, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Brooks & Dunn with Reba McIntyre, Ray Charles and Alan Jackson with LeAnne Rhymes. All were great shows!

but the most memorable one was the concert I didn't get to see........Michael Jackson. Had the tickets, but the pipsqueak cancelled at the last minute. This was just before his career took a nosedive.

They are probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite band ever. Really wished they had been around here.
I bet the BOC show was killer.
Some others came to mind reading thru here that I got to see. Sammy Hagar, Keith Urban (that dude has some serious talent), Stevie Nick's, Joe Walsh, scorpions,

I forgot to mention perhaps one of the best voices in country music (or any other genre) - George Strait.
Absolutely. Saw him at a festival about '99 or 2000. I think it was Asleep at the Wheel, Jo Dee Messina, Kenny Chesney, Dixie Chick's, Tim McGraw, and George headlined it. There was a lot of good music, but George was head and shoulders above all of them.

The festival was sponsored by a cell phone company, Sprint I think it was. During the Tim McGraw part, he pulled out a Sprint phone and held it up and told us to sing real loud so his wife could hear us singing a love song to her. That was some really cheesy product placement...

George is a talented guy, but I lost all respect for him years back when he refused to come to Michigan because he didn't think enough people would come to his concert. Well, after a while he did, and it was a sold out show.

In a few weeks, the band Great White is playing a show at a casino 20 minutes from me. I grew up during the hair band era when Great White had several hits and I saw them in high school. Tickets are $25. I think I might have to check it out. I'm sure the show will remind me that I'm definitely not young any more...😎

I forgot another one......Roy Buchanon. One of the best guitar players ever....I was lucky enough to see him in the DC area about 6 times in the early 70's.......tragic death though. He was followed by Danny Gatton who was another Tele slinger phenom.....
