Turned out a bigger day than expected today as DH got a call to do some paid gardening work.

Started off the morning with DH going to the doctor to see about his ingrown toenail and yes it needs operating on so they will fit him in with the specialised toe guy doctor there. The doctor's surgery we go to has numerous doctors and their own operating rooms for simple procedures and it is all free under medicare there. Then off to do DH's paid garden spraying job and that was done quickly.

Off to drop off DH's AWD in for it's service so it now purrs like a kitten again and we walked around town while we waited and ate lunch out using DH's meal allowance we had left. Then to DH's psychology appointment which we walked to and that went well too and we seem to be making more progress there. Stopped in and got some ice-cream, bananas and a small chocolate bar from Aldi on our way back home.

I have watered the gardens and potted herbs and fruit trees, changed the grey water hose onto a new fruit tree and changed the sprinkler head that DH had donated to next door's hose and said it doesn't matter they are both the same sprinklers  but ours is new so it matters to me. Just had nice warm showers and DH has the hot water system heating and will turn it off tomorrow morning when done.

Getting ready to go vote today.
One freedom I still have, that so many have died to protect.

Im pretty sure that I'll vote republican. My hand just can't check beside a dim.
Dems are idiots in my state ....and my country.

Then go get car serviced , gotta have it ready for the wife after my new knee in 2 weeks.

Then lunch.

All in all a decent day .

Jim

Ha the town I live near is so small we don't even have any police. The county deputies and the State Police cover our area.
Fire dept is all volunteer too ( which doesn't help with the home owner's insurance I can tell you)

Glad I live in a state with Castle Law and CC because it could take at the minimum 20 mins for any police to get here

That's how we are.

I did my duty ...

I ain't good at selfies.

Now I'm sitting at dealership service dept ...waiting.

The boys were up early bringing in more hay... They had to leave mid-morning, cut 50 acres of hay last friday and had to get it baled today.

I got a lot done on the wheel chair ramp then cleaned brush and vines away from the chicken pen. I also trimmed the flight feathers of the chickens. Took a long nap at lunch... didn't get much done after that.

Recovering....

Hit the highway for my 8 hour drive home. An hour into it hit a patch of black ice, slid across the adjacent lane, into the ditch, took out a sign (and my trucks front end and windshield) lost any sense of vision with the snow and mud coming in, felt a hit, felt tumbling and truck came to a stop. Didn’t know if I was right side up or upside down. Got out of a truck crushed front and back. According to a witness when my truck hit the sign it slide backwards, hit the far side of the ditch and tumbled several times end over end ending up on the right hand shoulder of the land I had slid out from. Belongs strewn across both lanes and the entire ditch. Police and paramedics arrived, amazed that I could move about.

Into the hospital for CT scans, while getting checked out the hospital went code black all areas - bomb or terrorist threat. Many staff and patients evacuated, fire police, SWAT on site, staff searching for suspicious packages. Eventually code was lifted. Apparently three packages found but no details as to what threat if any they contained. Tests finished, no concussion, no broken bones, just some soft tissue so will be sore for a while. doctors said I should not have walked away, high speed rollovers of that nature typical present broken backs and necks or head injuries. Praise God they were wrong. Some of you must have been praying.

on the not so good news, they Also found three masses on my one kidney which the radiologist labelled highly probable for renal cancer. That will be the next hurdle.

wallet and all ID lost at accident. Suitcase with all my meds and hearing aids left in wreck. Now begins the onerous task of police and insurance reports, trying to retrieve my personal belongings. my wife canceled all bank and credit cards but I will have to replace all my ID

Since I had no ID, no health care card, and was from out of province it took a lot of work to get a few days supply of my meds. God blessed me with a compassionate social worker who pushed it through the bureaucratic nightmare. Actually... kudos go out to all from first responders to doctors and care givers for excellent quality care.

fortunately I have friends in town who picked me up from hospital, bought me a few personal necessities, fed me and gave me a place to stay. I had emergency gear including my get home bag, extra credit cards and cash with me but lost it all in accident. Dependant upon friends, not something that a person can count on in a bigger SHTF situation. My lovely wife is coming to get me tomorrow.

close call but God is good. I might not have walked away or been crippled for life, or been unable to get my meds or been without a place to stay or food to eat. That’s a pretty sobering picture.

edited for a PS .... no damage at all to the knee I had repaired on Wednesday.thank you Lord.

Today we decided to do more of the little niggling tasks around the home.

We folded up two loads of washing, washed the dishes and I dried them and put them away, DH watered all of the gardens and potted plants and herbs. We also, so excited picked our first crop from our new gardens being about 4 bunches of silverbeet :woo hoo: . This afternoon we blanched and froze it and made 4 meals of silverbeet for the freezer. The washing, blanching and freezing water was used to water most of the potted plants and herbs and we only used 1 x 9 litre watering can of town water plus water for the drip irrigation for the gardens.

Tonight's dinner is homemade quiche with homegrown frozen silverbeet, bacon and homegrown tomatoes to last us the next two nights for dinner.

Good your ok! for the most part!
At least friends are close and came to help.
Is it safe for wife to drive up?

How bad is the storm... Is it lifting?

Keep us updated! Not much I can do from bama but message away, might be something!
Storm was actually relatively mild, just the way the sun hit a patch of ice left the slightest skim of water and I hydroplaned. The roads will be cleared and safe by now

@The Innkeeper oh my goodness so glad you are okay :huggs:friend. God is certainly good in many unexpected ways. I hope the growths on your kidney turn out to be benign and can easily be dealt with you will be in our prayers
Thanks so much

God is good, and was watching over you for sure. My prayers are with you and your wife to get you home, healed up, all IDs and such replaced. Most of all that the masses are easily treatable.

Dang @The Innkeeper ,
I guess I'm gonna have to quit going to bed at 10:30.

That was a close call. I'm just happy that your still with us.

Like any disaster , things get replaced, but life can't be replaced.

Prayers for you , on the kidney issue.
God saved you on the hwy, he will again.

Take care and if your up to it let us know how your doing.

Jim

What an ordeal, Innkeeper! And after your knee surgery, too. I bet your wife flipped out.

Off to the dentist today. I don't like dentists. Haven't been in years. It'll not be good.
She did pretty good all things considered.

Bonus on the IDs ... I found the wallet. It was in the jacket I grabbed off the seat when I stepped out of the truck. I must have grabbed it at that time because I clearly remember putting it on the seat when I headed out but don’t recall picking it up again

Bummer. God sure was looking out for you!

@The Innkeeper Many blessings to you and prayers for sure. Am so glad you're "alright." Keep you well dear friend.
@Amish Heart Good luck at the dentist. My mom has to take drugs before she goes in. She's getting better, but it's taken several years.
@Spikedriver Bummer! I think I suggested Jim take up knitting so he has something to do while his wife shops. Maybe you should too :ghostly: Slush is dangerous! Keep warm and safe tomorrow please.

Did some baking early this morning(0500 am early).
Went and cleaned on cousin's house.
Strawberry went too.
She got put on tie out and muzzled so she couldn't kill chickens.
She didn't kill any, but she sure did roll a couple, chased them.
Upstairs is pretty much finished.
So we started on Master bedroom.
You can now get completely into the bedroom, turn around inside the room.
Dust bunnies the size of a Volkswagen no longer live there.
Came home, the outside tie is on the kitchen table.
Cousin's husband came by and picked up fence posts, so all dozen are now off my front porch.
Drinking brown bean soup, then heading to bed.
Poor Strawberry is so tired, she hasn't moved from my recliner since we got home.
Poor girl got her exercise too.
She so tired she drugged herself into the house and hasn't moved since she climbed into the recliner.

I'm so thankful that you are doing well @The Innkeeper! Could have been so much worse!

I haven't been on here in about a week, I think. Just busy life stuff. My father-in-law will be in the area this weekend. Trying to do some Fall cleaning. Last Saturday I went to the 15 mile yard sale down in Louisiana. Didn't walk 15 miles, more like 8. Got a few little things but mostly just walked and had fun!

Once I miss a day or two here, I know it will take a while to get caught up, so I avoid getting started and just make it worse. LOL Anyone else do that? Or just my OCD self?
