Neither do my ducks and geese
But you went to the trouble and expense of fencing them in!
That's what's needed to keep them safe and my feet clean! Lol
My big plans for the day are to revel in being back among the living. I have been soooo sick the last couple of days, after a cold a week ago I felt really good for a day and them *bam* got hit hard with asthma and even worse cold symptoms, the only thing I did for two days was make sure everyone got fed.
My poor dogs are grateful to have their sane pleasant owner back, fortunately they are all older (over 8 yrs) so they are smart enough to realize when someone doesn't feel good and will growl/snap if you annoy them. They went easy on me and let me sleep most of the last two days.
Have also been keeping an eye on the two broodies and chicks in the hen house, let them mix for the first time today and immediately realized I should have bought 2 each of different breeds (instead of 3 Americanas and 1 Wyandotte). Immediately the 3rd little Americana chick ran over to be with the other two Americana babies. They say chickens can identify genetic relatives by scent, and this chick certainly seems to want to be with what are likely full or half siblings. I have seen that before. Fortunately the fourth chick is a completely different breed and gravitates more towards her broody than the other chicks. Looks like the older broody may end up raising 3 chicks and the younger will only have one, that shouldn't be a problem as long as nothing happens to the single chick.

I plan to clean the kitchen, crochet some to finish a wedding present afghan large enough for two. And maybe even sew some.

The fence runs to the front of the house,they can still get to the pack porch but they just go around it not on it. :thumbs up:
After Church, I made cornbread to go with the collard greens I made yesterday. And donuts from crescent roll dough (did not rise well). Now I am heading out to kill ants!
I was putting things away and organizing in my new shop. I found a pistol that I had started building a couple years ago. So naturally I got distracted and worked on that for a couple hours.

Well, Gumpy, I work with preschoolers. Some days are just poop and pee days. Just like ducks, turkeys, and chickens. I admit, I like the fowl, but the kids are cuter. I do believe God made them that way, or nobody would put up with the poop, pee, snot....

Happy Birthday, Timmie! Hope you enjoy your day! We all went to our oldest daughter's house. Had some pizza, had a lesson in distilling from her husband (he is applying for a license). Granddaughter taught me how to play darts properly, played her a round and won. Grandson thought it was hysterical to make me wear a virtual reality headset. Not a fan. I'm now picturing young people running around wearing these things night and day. Bad enough to see someone run into something because they can't put down their cell phone! Fun afternoon. Grandkids growing up too fast. Our 13 yr old grandson has to duck to not hit a ceiling fan. A little over 6 ft now. Granddaughter in High School just returned from a school trip to Europe. Fun to see all her photos. The trip focused on WW2. She had a great time.

Going to OKC for my hubby to get a stress test today. This is to make sure that his heart is healthy enough for his upcoming back surgery.
We got our coop cleaned out yesterday so we didn't have to think about it today. Will make sure doggies are fed and watered with plenty out just in case we have to stay. Our plants all survived our cold snap with maybe the exception of one cucumber.

I got the blood work done. I had to postpone my doctor's appointment with the pain specialist for tomorrow to next month. I don't have the copay or gas money for it this month but the way my lower back and hips been feeling the last couple of days I sure wish I could.
Good news today, I found people I’d trust to do away with my cataracts. The University of Alabama in Birmingham, Callahan Eye Hospital. It’s one of only two Level 1 Ocular Trauma Centers in the United States with a 24/7 eye emergency department. These folks are the best.
Even better news… I found out that on the 5th floor of the hospital is the “Veterans Affairs Eye Clinic”. The UAB surgeons do all the cutting, even for vets, but the VA covers the costs. I have an appointment for the end of May. Hopefully by the end of June I'll be able to see.

Smart man, you did your homework. Just a point, you should not feel an discomfort during the procedure. If you start to feel any sort of pain, immediately let the surgeon know. Some folks have a higher tolerance to the numbing medication and it wears off too soon. Ask me how, I know. Can we say ouch!!!

Regular work day. Then I scrubbed out the duck pools, and planted a bunch of oats, sunflower, and milo seeds in the duck run that I had been soaking for a few days. Got some lettuce, beets, and spinach planted. We are going to grandson's Boy Scouts Court of Honor potluck this evening, so I just made a blueberry pie and am putting an enchilada casserole in the oven.
Cataract surgery is a very precise but easy procedure. I have worked the last 13.5 years with a cataract Dr. He's awesome! We use a very light sedation as well as numbing drops. TMT is right, you should feel no discomfort and if you do say something!!
Just got home from a brutal 25 hour, straight through drive from Reno, NV to my home. I worked 8 days out there and it was a rough project, but I did manage to take about $125 from the casino after work. Hopefully, it should be the last time I'll have to go out west until next winter. The schedule has us in Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska until Nov. 1st...
I just may have to see if I can figure out a way to make that happen. Kentucky actually isn't THAT far from me...You need to get on down to Ky, in August...

I have the materials to build a few more raised beds, going with a more permanent option now and raised higher (24 inches) for ease on the back. I am not that old but will be one day and want to do the labor while I am in my "youth" (age 43). I do have the rhumatoid arthritis and it is well under control but that can change at time to so I am just doing some preparing for the days I can't stuff like that.
Also have 75% of the materials to add another 28 feet width to my barn this summer that will make it 58 feet wide by 60.
Also have the materials to build a new creek crossing using 4 foot diameter concrete tile sections (I have 5 of them 4x4) and will use railroad ties to build a mouth to the concrete tiles and cross some of them across the front to act as a debris catch. Photos will be forthcoming as I complete these projects....be patient, I travel for work but I will share completed projects.
Also going to be fencing in about 2 acres on one side of the barn to keep the herd out so I can plant/establish some good shade grass. Been feeding there for about 6 months to build soil and using the cows to level some places by strategic placement of the feed rings.
Lot on our plate on the homestead but as always....the work is NEVER DONE!

Had 12 yards of crushed rock delivered late this afternoon. Any one who wants is welcome to come over and help spread it.
Maybe after I finish getting the truckloads of manure spread and finish my raised bed repairs, and repair the lawn tractors, and put the snowblower away for the winter and get the lawn mowers ready for summer and repair the leanto roof and ..... Anyway , I would if I were closer because my list isn't getting any shorter anyway.
Bring it over here and I'll spread it for you.

I need to go renew my drivers license after work today. Bleech. I got the 8 yr renewal option last time, and just realized it's been 8 years.
