That would make you older than I. I believe Christmas was decided to be celebrated on December 25th in 336 CE. Before that it was not an official celebration at all.
The Epiphany and Easter were the most important holy days of the church. The date of December 25th was likely chosen to coincide with the Roman celebration of Saturn (the god of agriculture) and the Persian festival of Mithra (the god of light). This made it easier for pagans to accept Christianity.

Edit: December 21st is the winter solstice - although it varies plus or minus a day or so. I believe most Pagans still celebrate the winter solstice as the mid-winter festival. For some it is one of two important days of the year, as days get longer and nights get shorter.
 
Yup. We celebrate with red and white candles, meditation, exchange of gifts and red wine.
The fact it hits on my birthday and my little birth mark is a big part of who and what I am.
I had no say in my destiny at all.

There are a few people in my neighborhood who celebrate winter solstice with parties.

I have heard that Jesus's birthday was actually in September, but Christians began celebrating it on Dec. 25 because all the former pagan converts would fall off the wagon and celebrate the winter solstice. We know that Jesus' birthday is documented in the bible, but is the actual date documented in some official records somewhere? And does it really matter?
 
Weedy, It doesn't matter when the actual date was, and it is not listed in any of the bibles I have read.
There are hints - like the shepherds minding their flocks and the census taking. It feels more like a springtime event.

If you guys knew the secret history of the Christmas tree, You'd chuck it out into the yard and set fire to it.

It is in the Old Testament. Some of my Christian friends told me about it a few decades ago. I rarely put up a Christmas tree, in spite of having a couple artificial ones in my basement. And, no hanging heads on mine!

It ain't there hon. they pirated the holiday from us so we'd be in church instead or running around in the woods drunk, naked and wasted on mushrooms and breeding out of wedlock.
 
17 Days till Christmas! These are the times I remember as a kid, the family going shopping together at the "5 & dime" to buy everyone a gift, even if it was just bath salts or a plastic dish set.... I'll bet the parents didn't have $50 between them... Main street was fully decorated with candy canes and garland, it was such a gentile time.....
