My fabrics are in the wash. I'm hoping for a 4" border. I was wanting to add a 1.5" sashing. I'm thinking couch throw. I hate throws that you can't cover your feet and your chin at the same time, lol. If I have too I can check JoAnn's website for more peacock fabric. There is also another Joann's 40 mins from me if my local store doesn't get in more. Maybe I should choose one of my colors for sashing because I don't have anything for sashing..... Surgery is Thursday! I'm excited cause I get time off work :woo hoo:

Wow, Greeneyes! That is just gorgeous! I can't wait to see your finished quilt top and that peacock border is perfect. Two yards will be enough for your border, you'll just have to see if you have enough for the width you want. I have four fabrics and the ecru background for my burgundy/gold set. It just depends on the pattern which ones I use. They all get used, just not always in the same block. It's great that you're able to plan ahead and have something to occupy you while you're recovering from your surgery. Be sure to check in when you're up to it and let us know how you are.

OK ladies, I am playing catch up tonight. . . thank you for posting the Antique Tile square! I love love love that one and thinking it will be my next quilt project for grand baby due in Nov. I don t know the sex yet but if another girl wouldn't that be pretty in a cornflower blue and pale yellow florals? Also enjoyed looming at Quiltville's Quips & Snips. Those are just beautiful.

Dani, I love blues and yellows together and I think it's perfect for a little girl! I have a set of Greek Cross blocks made in blues and yellows so I'll take a picture of a few of them to show but they're stored in a tub behind another tub under my bed so it will be a while before I can take a picture. In the next couple of weeks I'll be doing some cleaning and re-arranging in my bedroom so I'll pull them out then. I'm so glad that spring is knocking on the front door again. I'm going to sweep winter right out the back door!

Greeneyes, I went through the same thing when I had surgery a couple of years ago only it was me that got sick. I got a bad cold and they postponed it a week but I still hadn't gotten over it and they postponed it another week. It's frustrating when you want to just get it over with but hang in there, it will finally happen.

I'll take my pictures this afternoon of tomorrow's block. This is one you can call Old Faithful because it never lets you down.
:dancing:

Friendship Star is this week's block and this pattern never lets you down. It can be made easily in whatever size you need. It's one of the most popular quilt patterns and it's one of the first blocks I made a quilt from. There are many variations but we're using the basic pattern with no frills.

Here's a pretty quilt with the stars on point and separated with plain fabric squares.

And this one uses different size stars together.

I just wish I was bigger then twin size. I guess it could be a couch blanket. A lot of the reviews say they are generous on fabric, one even said she had enough to make 2 quilts. I hate spending money on me, but I love earth tones. They really speak to my soul!

Greeneyes so glad the surgery is over.,, Rats that is hurts more.. but hope you recover quickly and get to sewing.. I like the quilt.. nice colors and interesting blocks.. I noticed it did say if you purchased 3 more yards you could expand it to Queensize.. be worth it to make it the size you are wanting..

This week's block is Contrary Wife and I've always wondered how it got it's name! I really like this block for repros, either 30s or Civil War, because it shows the fabrics off so nicely.

When this diagonal pattern is set block to block, you can create a variety of pretty designs. I love the scrappy arrangement for this first picture.

Here is a simple Straight Furrows arrangement.

Maxine, unfortunately they are out of the fat quarter expansion kit. The only have the kit, kit plus backing, and matching threads

Greeneyes, I'm so glad that surgery is behind you and hope you'll make a fast recovery. I don't have much need for twin size quilts either so mine are mostly double bed size with some queen and an occasional lap size. What if you put the tan inner border on then made a pieced border for the two long sides to make it wider then put the blue border around the whole quilt? If you already have some browns/blues/greens that would blend with the Cabin Creek fabrics, you could use those. I think since they'd be inside the outer blue border, they wouldn't look out of place and you could make them the width you want. It's just a thought. Here are some different border ideas. If you click on the one that looks interesting, it takes you to the instructions. The Delectable Mountains might look nice with your quilt. At the bottom of that page, she shows a really easy way to make them.

Thank you so much for that! I've never really explored that site for more then patterns! I think the Delectable Mountains would work wonderfully with this quilt! I also like the Herringbone and the Braid, just not for the Canyon Creek! I'm hoping to clean my table off and start some sewing today.

Cool idea Katie..I too have to admit I didn't know about the border section on that site.. Wow! learn something everyday.. I've used the braided pattern for lots of things besides borders,, I really love it.... I need to try some of the others just for the experience.. Thanks !

Katie I like this block & too have wondered how it got it's name.. will have to research it.. I sometimes get it confused with Jacobs Ladder..

Greeneyes, I'm so glad you like the Delectable Mountains because I thought it would be perfect for your quilt!

Maxine, it is the same design as Jacob's Ladder, the only difference is the four patches instead of plain squares. Jacob's Ladder has other names, too.

There's also a Contrary Husband block.
Barbara Brackman featured both blocks in her Grandmother's Choice BOM.

It's a good thing I decided to do some prep work on these to get ready to sew. Earlier today I got the thread for these blocks, a jelly roll and the binding to finish the Christmas presents out of the shopping bag. I get home from the barn, as I'm eating dinner I'm trying to remember what I did with the thread. The binding is on the table, jelly roll put away, no thread! I check everywhere, finally find it in the trash with the bag it was in....

This is a rough idea of what I was thinking. A small 1.5" sashing if the blue, then a 4" border of peacock. The blue will also appear in any blocks that has 4 colors. Opinions please. For some reason when I look at the broken sugar bowl, I feel I should have reversed the colors???

Greek Cross. My points are getting worse once I sew on the sashing I'm gonna lose a few. Oh well. I'm enjoying sewing. Trying to figure out what happened, I wanted a purple cross, even had the center block cut in purple. Didn't realize my mistake until I had my top row together.
